Amaravati, Jan 31: In a pivotal cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Andhra Pradesh government announced a series of impactful decisions aimed at education, environment, social welfare, and economic development. These initiatives promise to address key concerns and propel the state forward.

Education at the Forefront: Addressing the long-standing issue of teacher shortages, the cabinet approved the recruitment of 6,100 teachers through the District Selection Committee (DSC), injecting much-needed manpower into the education system.

Other Key Decisions:

  • Strengthening Environmental Guardians: Recognizing the crucial role of forest rangers, the cabinet sanctioned the filling of 689 vacant positions in the forest department, bolstering efforts towards conservation and wildlife protection.
  • Empowering Women: In a commitment to social upliftment, Rs 5,000 crore was allocated specifically for the welfare of Backward Classes (BC), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Minority women. This significant investment signals a focus on bridging social inequalities.
  • Investing in the Future: Recognizing the potential of renewable energy, the cabinet granted approval for two wind power projects in Nandyala and Kurnool districts, along with ambitious plans for a 600 MW wind power project in Sri Satyasai and Anantapur districts. This aligns with India's national clean energy goals and promises a greener future for the state.
  • Releasing funds under the fourth tranche of the YSR Cheyutha scheme on February 16th, providing financial assistance to women beneficiaries.
  • Extending the retirement age for non-teaching staff in government universities from 60 to 62, ensuring institutional stability and experience retention.
  • Making it mandatory for all gram panchayats to have an appointed secretary, strengthening village-level governance.
  • Granting cabinet approval for energy projects approved by the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), ensuring strategic oversight and responsible development.
