However, despite these new recruitments, a significant number of vacancies still persist in government junior colleges across the state.

Key Highlights of Junior Lecturer Recruitment 2025

  • Total sanctioned posts: 6,008
  • Vacancies until last year: 900 regular lecturers
  • 3,500 contract lecturers yet to be regularized
  • Newly recruited lecturers: 1,292
  • Still vacant posts: 316

Why Do Vacancies Still Exist?

Delay in Recruitment Process

The Telangana Public Service Commission (TSPSC) identified vacancies three years ago and issued a recruitment notification in December 2022. Due to multiple delays, the selection process concluded only recently, leading to a backlog of vacancies. The new recruits will undergo training before assuming teaching duties in the next academic year.

Shortage of Lecturers in Junior Colleges

Telangana has 424 government junior colleges, many of which are facing a severe lecturer shortage. Out of 6,008 sanctioned lecturer posts, only 900 were filled until last year. Although the government initiated the regularization of 3,500 contract lecturers, the process remains incomplete. After the new recruitments, the total number of regular lecturers will be 5,692, leaving 316 posts still vacant. With new colleges established, the actual number of vacancies is estimated to be much higher.

Lack of Faculty in Newly Opened Colleges

24 new junior colleges have been established in the past two years. 19 colleges still lack sanctioned faculty posts, relying on guest faculty or transferring lecturers from other colleges. The Intermediate Board has proposed 480 additional posts to meet the faculty shortage. If we combine these with existing 316 vacancies, the total teaching staff requirement reaches 796.

Upcoming Changes in the Intermediate Syllabus & Need for More Faculty

The Intermediate syllabus is being revised to align with national-level exams like JEE & NEET. New English Practical Exams are being introduced to improve speaking, grammar, and writing skills. The Board estimates 129 additional English faculty are required to maintain quality standards. Advanced Chemistry Labs are being upgraded to meet international standards, requiring more subject experts.

Future Concerns

  • 1,292 new lecturers & 240 polytechnic lecturers joining the workforce
  • 316 vacancies still remain unfilled in junior colleges
  • Newly opened colleges need 480 more faculty positions
  • Additional staff required for syllabus upgrades & lab improvements
  • Contract lecturers' regularization process still pending
