Study in Australia: TOEFL Not Accepted for Visa Processing!!
The Australian Department of Home Affairs has announced that the Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based test (TOEFL iBT) will be temporarily unavailable for visa purposes starting from July 26, 2023, until further notice. This decision comes as a result of ongoing revisions being made to the test by ETS (Educational Testing Service).

During this period, the department will accept English proficiency test results from other recognized tests, including:
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS), including One Skill Retake (OSR).
- Pearson Test of English (PTE).
- Cambridge English (CAE), also known as C1 Advanced.
- Occupational English Test (OET), specifically designed for health professionals.
It is important to note that for those who have already taken the TOEFL test for Australian visa purposes before July 25, 2023, their test results will remain valid.
However, for Australian visa applications in subclasses 476, 482, and 485, only scores from a single sitting/attempt of the IELTS test will be accepted, including OSR.
The changes in the TOEFL iBT test were implemented following a series of updates by ETS to optimize the test-taking experience for candidates. The latest version now takes less than two hours to complete, compared to the previous three-hour duration. The Australian government is currently reviewing these updates made to the TOEFL iBT.
