10. Decision Making(Eligibility Test)

EXERCISE
Directions (Q.1-5): Read the following information and answer the questions given below it.
The following are the criteria for the admission to the medical course in a college.

The student must:
(A) have passed XII Std. examination in Science with at least 50% marks,
(B) be at least 18 years old as on 1.4.1991,
(C) have scored at least 65% marks in the entrance examination,
(D) be able to pay the monthly tuition fee of Rs, 400, and
(E) be able to pay one-time deposit of Rs. 15,000.
(F) The case of student who satisfies all other criteria but can pay the one-time deposit only upto Rs, 10,000, is to be referred to the Director of the Institute.
(G) The case of a candidate who satisfies all other criteria apart from the percentage of marks in XII th Std. is to be referred to the Chairman, Admission.
(H) A student who has satisfied all other criteria but has not yet received the result of the final examination of XII th standard may be provisionally admitted.
On the basis of the above criteria and the information given in the each of the following questions you have to take decisions as regards admittance of the student. Please note you are not assuming anything in the case of any student.

  1. Irene Fernandez has passed XII th Std. exam in Science with 70% marks. She has secured 75% marks in the entrance exam and was 18 years old on 1.7.90. She can pay tuition fee of Rs. 400 per month but can pay one-time deposit of only Rs. 10,000.
  2. Prabir Singhal secured 60% marks in the XIIth Std. exam with Science. He was 19 years old on 1.3.90 and has secured 80% marks in the entrance test. He can pay the stipulated one-time deposit of Rs. 15,000 and the monthly tuition fee of Rs. 400.
  3. Devan Verma has passed XIIth Std. exam in Science with 48% marks and was born on 25th July, 1972. He has secures 80% marks in the entrance examination. He is able to pay one-time deposit of Rs, 5,000 and monthly tuition fee of Rs 400.
  4. Prashanth Kohli has passed XII th Std. exam in Science with 45% marks. He was 19 years old as on 1.2.91. He has secures 70% marks in the entrance examination. He is able to pay stipulated one-time deposit and the monthly tuition fees.
  5. Nitish Sharma has secured 72% marks in the entrance examination and was born on 17th September 1971. He is yet to receive his mark sheet of his XII th Std. final exam in Science stream. He is able to pay the one-time deposit of Rs. 15000 and the monthly tuition fee of Rs. 400.

    Directions (Q.6-10): Read the following information carefully and answer the questions given below it.
    A student can be awarded free studentship by an institute if the following conditions are fulfilled.
    a) Total family income of the student should not be more than Rs. 24000 per annum.
    b) A student should have secured not less than 60% marks in Higher Secondary and Graduation.
    c) A student should not be more than 22 years old as on 30.6.92.
    d) A student must not be availing any other scholarship.
    e) If a student satisfies all these criteria except (a) above and has excelled in games or sports at the district level, he will be entitled for the free studentship.
    f) If a student has secured 90% marks in Graduation but has secured less than 60% marks in Higher Secondary, the student may be offered free studentship.
    g) If total family income of the student is less than Rs. 12000 per annum, this is to be referred to the Principal for waiving condition (d) above.
    h) If a student has secured at least 80% marks in both Higher Secondary and Graduation, the case may be referred to the Registrar to waive condition (c) above.
    On the basis of the above conditions, decide about the course of action that should be taken in the case of each of the students given below. You are not to assume anything in the case of any student.

  6. Vikram Dubey, who was born on 20th December 1973, has secured 90% marks in Higher Secondary and 50% marks in Graduation. He has not been awarded any other scholarship. The total income of the family is Rs. 1,500 per month.
  7. Surekha Dwivedi was born on 10th October, 1974. She is the district badminton champion. She has secured 55% marks in both Higher Secondary and Graduation. She has not been awarded any other scholarship. The total income of her family is Rs. 20,000 per annum,
  8. Rajan Jain was 20 years old as on 20th July 1990. He has secured 85% marks in both Higher Secondary and Graduation. The total income of his family Rs. 15,000 per annum. He has not been awarded any other scholarship.
  9. Nineteen years old as on 25.6.1992, Bhabani Das has secured 65% marks in both Higher Secondary and Graduation, The total income of his family is Rs. 20,000 per annum. He does not have any other scholarship.
  10. Mohan Seth has secured 70% marks in both Graduation and Higher Secondary. He will be 23 years old as on 5th August, 1993. The total income of his family is Rs. 2400 per month. He has not been awarded any other scholarship.

    Directions (Q.11-15): Read the following information and answer the questions given below it.
    The following are the conditions for selecting a “Management Trainee” for a reputed public sector company. The candidate must:
    a) be a post-graduate in commerce with 60% marks or a C.A.
    b) Not be a more than 25 years old and less than 20 years old as on 1.12.92.
    c) Have fluency in English and Hindi.
    d) Be in a position to pay Rs. 10,000/- as deposit to the company.
    e) Give an undertaking to work for at least 5 years for the company.
    However,
    (i) if a person satisfies all the conditions except (a) above, he should be referred to the Managing Director of the company.
    (ii) If a person satisfies all the conditions except (d) and/or (e) above, he should be referred to the Chairman of the company.
    On the basis of the above criteria and the information provided, you have to decide each case. You are not to assume anything which is beyond what is given in the questions. The alternative courses of decision and the method of indicating the same are as follows.

    Mark answer:
    1) if data provided is not complete in the case of any of the candidates.
    2) if the candidate cannot be selected as a Management Trainee.

  11. 22-year-old Raju is a post-Graduate in commerce with 60% marks. He is fluent in Hindi only. He can pay the required deposit and is also ready to give 5 years’ undertaking.
  12. 21-year-old Vijay has obtained 63% marks in Post-Graduation with Commerce, in fluent in Hindi and English and can pay the required deposit. He is willing to give 5 years’ undertaking.
  13. 23-year-old Suresh is a C.A. with fluency in Hindi and English. He can pay Rs. 8000 as deposit and will give 5 years’ undertaking.
  14. Amar is a Post-Graduate with 59% marks in Commerce. He is fluent in Hindi and English and also willing to give an undertaking of 5 years. He can pay the required deposit.
  15. Rajan is a Post-Graduate in Commerce with 70% marks. He is fluent in Hindi and English. He can pay the required deposit and is ready to give 5 years’ undertaking. His date of birth is 01.11.1973.

    Directions (Q. 16-20): ABC Ltd Company wants to recruit Trainee Officers in its IT department.
    Following are the criteria for selection:
    The candidate must

    (i) be an engineering graduate in IT or Computer Science or Electronics or Electronics and Telecommunication with minimum of 60% marks.
    (ii) have secured at least 75% marks in Secondary (SSC) and at least 80% marks in Higher Secondary (HSC) examination.
    (iii) be not less than 21 years and not more than 26 years of age as on 1.7.2007.
    (iv) have cleared the selection test with at least 50% marks.
    (v) have scored at least 45% marks in interview.
    However, if a candidate satisfies all the above mentioned criteria EXCEPT-
    (a) at (ii) above, but has scored at least 70% marks in engineering, his/her case may be referred to GM-IT.
    (b) at (v) above, but has scored at least 40% marks in interview and 60% marks in selection test, his/her case may be referred to the VP.
    In each question below, details of one candidate is provided. You have to take an appropriate decision, based on the information provided and the criteria indicated above and mark your answer as one of the choices given below. You are not to assume anything other than the information provided in each question. All these cases are given to you as on 1.7.2007.

  16. Shruti Kale with age of 22 years is an Engineering graduate in Computer Science with 66% marks. She had scored 82% marks in SSC and 87% marks in HSC, She had fared well in the selection test and scored 68% marks, Her score in interview was 42%.
  17. Parikshit is a 23-year-old boy working as a Trainee Engineer in an Engineering firm that he joined recently. He has done BE Electronics with 73% marks. His scores in SSC and HSC were 78% and 82% respectively. He cleared the selection test with 56% marks and his score in interview was 44%
  18. Nilesh Mehta is an IT Engineer who passed with 68% marks in 2006. He had secured more than 85% marks both in SSC and HSC. His scores in selection test as well as interview are more than 60%.
  19. Akhilesh has passed BE in Electronics with 63% marks. SSC with 78% marks and HSC with 84% marks. His date of birth is 10th July 1982. He has scored 54% marks in selection test and 56% marks in interview.
  20. Sharvari 25 years old is passed IT engineering degree with 76% marks in 2005. She had scored 78% marks both in SSC and HSC. She has performed well in the selection test and interview and secured more than 60% marks at both the stages

    Directions (Q. 20-25): For recruiting Agriculture Officers in an organization, the following conditions apply.
    The candidate must
    (i) be an agriculture graduate with at least 65% marks,
    (ii) clear the selection test with at least 50% marks,
    (iii) secure at least 45% marks in interview,
    (iv) be born on after 1.11.1975 but not after 1.11.1984,
    (v) be willing to work in rural area.
    If the candidate satisfies all the above-mentioned conditions EXCEPT-
    (a) at (i) above, but has passed post graduation in agriculture, the case may be referred to the Vice-President.
    (b) At (iii) above, but has secured 60% or more marks in selection test and has secured at least 40% marks in interview, the case may be referred to the Chief General Manager.
    In each question below, detailed information of one candidate is provided. You have to read the information provided carefully and decide which of the following courses of action you will adopt as regarding status of the candidate based on the conditions stated above. You are not assume anything other than the information provided in each question. All these cases are given as on 1.11.2005. Study the information of candidate in each question and decide the course of action.

  21. Sahil passed BSc. Agriculture in 2003 at the age of 21 years with 68% marks. He is doing post graduation in agriculture and will complete it in May 2006. He has secured 58% marks in selection test and has secured 50% marks in interview. He is willing to work in rural area.
  22. Milind is an agriculture graduate with 70% marks. His date of birth is 11.7.1984. He scored 68% marks in selection test and 42% marks in interview. He is willing to work in rural area.
  23. Pravin is a postgraduate in agriculture with 58% marks. He has been working for last 2 years after completing post-graduation at the age of 25 years. His date of birth is 1. 12.1983. He had scored 56% marks in graduation in agriculture. He secured 60% marks in selection test and 52% marks in interview. He is willing to work in rural area.
  24. Raj Barua has been working as an Agriculture officer for past three years after completing BSc Agriculture with 62% marks at the age of 23 years. He has cleared the selection test with 48% marks and interview with 47% marks. He is willing to work in rural area.
  25. Avinash has passed graduation and post-graduation in agriculture with 67% and 69% marks respectively. His date of birth is 11. 8.1983 .He has secured 70% marks in selection test and 42% marks in interview.

    Directions (Q. 26-30): For recruiting Management Trainees in an organization in an organization, the following criteria have been laid down. The candidate must:
    (a) be a first-class graduate in Commerce with at least 65% marks.
    (b). have secured at least 70% marks in SSC.
    (c). be not more than 26 years and not less than 21 years of age as on 1.08.2007.
    (d).have secured at least 60% marks in selection lest.
    (e).have secured at least 50% marks in selection interview.
    However, If a candidate fulfils all the above-mentioned criteria except (I) at (a) above but has is an economics graduate with at least 70% marks, the case may be referred to the GM of the organization. (II) at (e) above has secured at least 40% marks in selection interview and at least 70% selection test . The case may be referred to the President of the organization.
    In each of the questions below information of one candidate is given. You have to take one of the following five decisions based on the information provided and the criteria and conditions given above. You are not to assume anything other than the information provided in each question. All these cases are given to you as on 01.08.2007 you have to indicate your decision by making answers to each question as follows;

  26. Abhishek has passed degree examination in Commerce with Economics as one of the subjects in first class with 68% marks in 2006 at the age of 22 years. His mark: in SSC was 73%. He has cleared the selection test with 64% marks and selection interview with 62% marks.
  27. Sharad Bhatia has passed B COM in first class with 69% marks and SSC with 78% marks. He joined a private organization as an officer in June 2005 immediately after Completing 23 year of age. He has scored 65% marks in selection test and 48% marks in selection interview.
  28. Priyanka Ghate has passed graduation in Arts with specialization in Economics with 72.5 % marks. His date of birth is 16.06.1985. He has scored 65% marks in SSC, 63% in selection interview and 61% marks in selection test.
  29. Rakesh has passed SSC with 85% marks and graduation in Arts with specialization in economics with 72% marks. Her date of birth is 12.06.1985. He has scored 65% marks in selection test as well as in interview. .
  30. Saritha Dere is a postgraduate in Commerce passed in first class with 62% marks. Her score in SSC was 75%. She completed 23 years of age on 23rd December, 2006. She has scored 64% marks in selection test and 55% marks in selection interview.

    Directions (Q. 31-35): Study the following information carefully and answer the questions given below.
    Following are the eligibility criteria for applying for the post of Officer in a bank.
    (i) The candidate should be a graduate with at least 65 per cent marks.
    (ii) The candidate should have at least 60 per cent marks in graduation if he has post graduation with at least 65 per cent marks.
    (iii) The candidate should have at least 65 percent mark in graduation and at least 60 per cent marks in post graduation if he holds doctoral degree (Ph. D)
    (iv) The candidate should have at least 55% marks in both graduation and in post graduation if he has at least five years work experience after graduation.
    (v) The candidate should have at least 60 per cent marks in graduation if he has at least ten years work experience after graduation.
    In each of the following questions, details of one candidate are given. You have to find whether the candidate in each question eligible and under which of the above criteria. The candidate may be eligible under one or more of the criteria given above. Read the information given in each question and find out the correct answer.

    Directions.(Q.36-40): Study the following information carefully and answer the questions given below:
    An organization wants to recruit management trainees. Following are the criteria for such recruitment. The candidate must be-
    (a)a graduate in any discipline with at least 65 percent marks.
    (b). above 24 years and not above 30 years of age as one 01.11.2004.
    (c). having a postgraduate degree/ diploma in management or have completed ICWA/CA/CS with at least 55percent marks.
    (d).having an experience of 0-2 years.
    (e).Ready to be on probation for one year.
    If a candidate satisfies all the criteria except-
    (i) at (c) above, but is an engineer with minimum 70percent marks his/her case is to be referred to the GM-PA

  39. Divya Kallat is a post graduate in management with 70 percent marks after completing her commerce graduation with 65 percent marks; she is 25 years old and has been working for the past three years. She is ready to be on probation for one year.
  40. Sanket Roy is an engineer with 72 percent marks and has been working (as soon as he completed his engineering) for the past one year. His date of birth is 1st April , 1978 and he is ready to work on probation of a year.

    Directions (Q.41-45): Study the following information carefully and answer the questions given below:
    Following are the conditions for selecting Personnel Officer in an organization: The candidate must
    (i). be a graduate with at least 55 percent marks,
    (ii).be a post graduate degree/ HRD specialization with at least 60percent marks.
    (iii).have secured at least 60percent marks in the selection process.
    (iv). Be at least 25 years and not more than 30 years old as 1.6.2007
    In the case of candidate who satisfies all the above conditions EXCEPT.
    (A)at(iii) above, but has been working for at least 65 percent in post graduate degree /diploma , the case is to be referred to DGM – Personnel.
    (B) at (ii) above, but has been working for at least three years in personnel department of an organization , the case is to be referred to GM-Personnel.

You have to take one of the following course of action for which each candidate based on the information provided and the conditions and sub- conditions given above and mark the number of the course of action as your answer. He has secured 60 percent marks in graduation and 65 percent marks in the selection process. He has recently enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme in personnel management
  43. Sudha Kulakarni was born on 03rd January 1980. She has secured 62 percent marks in selection process. She has completed post graduate diploma in management with HRD Specialization.
  44. Subodhdhar has secured 62 percent in the selection process and 63 percent marks in graduation. He was born on 15th April 1979. He was born on 13th May 1981.He has secured 58 per cent marks in the selection process.
  45. Abhishek Varma has secured 65 percent marks in graduation and 63 percent marks in postgraduate degree in management with HRD specialization. He was born on 13th May 1981.He has secured 58 percent marks in the selection process.

    Directions (Q.46-50): Study the following information carefully to answer these questions.
    Spectra Ltd. Co wants to recruit computer operators for its branch offices in various places following criteria are laid down for selection:
    (A) Be a graduate with at least 60% marks
    (B) Have passed a PG Degree/ Diploma in computer applications with at least 65% marks.
    (C) Have cleared the computer skill Test with at least 55% marks.
    (D)Be not less than 24 years and not more than 30 years of age as on 01.09.07
    However, if a candidate satisfies all these conditions except
    (i) at (B) above, but has secured at least 70% marks in computer skill test, the case is to be referred to the GM-Admin of the company
    (ii) at (D) above, but has a working experience of at least two years information Technology, the case is to be referred to the GM-Personnel of the company.

  47. Amita Sharma passed BCA examination in 2002 at the age of 22 years with 80% marks. After working for two years she enrolled for post graduation in computer Applications .She has secured 55% marks in computer skill test.
  48. Rajat Batra has passed BCA as well as MCA with73% marks. He has cleared the computer skill test with 79% marks. His date of birth is 5th August 1976.
  49. Vishal kumar has passed BA with 68% marks and PG Diploma in Computer Application with 70% marks. He has secured 70% marks in Computer skill test. His date of birth is 08.02.1982
  50. Sukumarrath passed PGDCA examination in 2002 at the age of 29 years with 66% marks. After working for three years in information Technology he enrolled for PG degree in computer Application last year. He has secured 85%marks in his graduation as well as in computer skill test.
