Yes, it is Rajasthan, which surpassed the evergreen solar energy state Gujarat recently.
According to the data released by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Rajasthan with total 1,167 megawatt (MW) installed capacity has surpassed Gujarat (1000 MW) which was previous number one state in the country.
Top 5 states (in terms of installed capacity)
1. Rajasthan - 1147 MW
2. Gujarat - 1000 MW
3. Madhya Pradesh - 58 MW
4. Maharashtra - 7 MW
5. Andhra Pradesh - 4 MW.
In 2014, Rajasthan government had released its Solar Policy which aimed at installing 25000 MW of solar power in state. In this policy state government had introduced numerous investor-friendly measures to tap full potential of solar power.
Solar Power
Solar power is the conversion of Sunlight into electricity.
Photovoltaic Systems (PVS)
This is the direct method to convert sun light into electricity. It works based on Photovoltaic effect. The photovoltaic effect was first observed by French physicist A. E. Becquerel in 1839 and Charles Fritts constructed Solar cell using photovoltaic effect in 1880s.
A photovoltaic power system produces Direct current (DC). This is the most widely using technology to generate solar electricity.
The largest solar PV power plants in the world are Desert Sunlight Solar Farm, Topaz Solar Farm, both located in Southern California.
Largest and first solar park in India is Charanka Solar Park, Gujarat.
