Geotechnical engineering is a branch of Civil Engineering that deals with materials of Earth like soil and rock. Geotechnical engineers explore the use of such material mixed with concrete, steel and likewise, for the purpose of construction of dams, landfills, tunnels etc. Some of the subjects studied in the course include soil dynamics and earthquake engineering and machine foundations, soil stabilisation, reinforced earth, geo-synthetics, environmental geo-technique and waste disposal, unsaturated soil mechanics and rock mechanics.
