Summer Intern, Lathe Department, Mori Seiki-Japan
Sakshi Education
I still remember the feelings I had while boarding the plane to Japan for my internship at Iga Campus of Mori Seiki. I was both nervous and excited at the prospect of undergoing internship in such a reputable machine tool firm, albeit in a distant land. My fears and apprehensions quickly evaporated as I witnessed the copious amounts of care and attention showered on me right from the start –whether it was the caretakers in the dormitory or my main technical educator in the Lathe Development Department, Koji Nomi san (NL Design Team).
I was welcomed into the Lathe Development Department very warmly and am grateful to each of my educators for showing infinite patience in answering all my doubts. My internship project gave me new insight into areas of designing and manufacturing. It was a pleasure to visit the Iga factory that was run with clockwork accuracy and spotless cleanliness. I was overjoyed to see the practical applications of all the technical knowledge that I had acquired during the course of my studies as an engineer. It was here that I realized how fortunate I was to work with a company that deals with such cutting edge technologies. At the same time, I was left spellbound by the level of work ethic, teamwork, professionalism and camaraderie displayed by all the employees of Mori Seiki. It has been an honor to work in such an atmosphere. Undoubtedly, these experiences of how to conduct oneself in an organization shall go a long way in shaping my professional career.
However, this internship was not only about acquiring technical knowledge. It is also a story of my cultural awakening. All the weekends and holidays were well utilized to appreciate the pulchritude of Japan’s amazing countryside, soak in some of its culture as well as travel to some of the most sought-after places in the world. These endeavors were made possible through the help of all my colleagues at Mori Seiki who painstakingly planned and booked some of my journeys. All my adventures – whether it was clambering up Mount Fuji or watching an enthralling Sumo Wrestling Tournament in Nagoya or tasting local specialties like Okonomiyaki and Takoyaki in Osaka - have made me fall in love with Japan!
I would like to say that I no longer think of Mori Seiki as a firm but as a very close-knit family. I wish Mori Seiki and all its employees all success in the future and sincerely hope that I get an opportunity to have a symbiotic relationship with the company in the times to come.
