My Internship in AkzoNobel India Pvt. Ltd. at Hyderabad - Harshit Rungta, IIT, Delhi

I did my internship in AkzoNobel India Pvt. Ltd. at Hyderabad. AkzoNobel is the biggest paints manufacturing company in the world headquartered at Amsterdam. In India, its premium brand is Dulux. My project was capacity mapping of the plant and debottlenecking of the process streams. I was quite nervous while I was entering for the first time, but got relaxed after meeting my mentor who was very cooperative and an alumnus of IIT Delhi, from Mechanical Engg. Deptt. The everyday tasks given to me were quite cumbersome in starting as it included a lot of movements and standing in the huge plant observing the processes, but later it got quite interesting. Whenever I used to get bored, I would simply go and start watching the filling procedure and pass my time. Since the plant is about 40 years old, most of the things like filling and powder charging were manual.

At AkzoNobel, I got a great exposure towards the plant and factory work. One will definitely learn how to utilize time efficiently after working in such a plant. There are uncountable new problems one can face everyday, and tackling them accordingly without disturbing the other processes is very challenging. The tasks given to me had nothing to do with what we study here at our college, but you never know when you need them. Thus even senior managers used to keep the common engineering books in their offices. I also had a daily interaction with the labour and came to realize how tough their life actually was. It is those labours from whom you will learn the most as well as come to know about the dark and bright secrets of the company. A company family get together was also held, and luckily I was an employee of the company.

Overall, I really liked my work and would definitely like to work more in such a nice company for even longer period. Professionally and personally, I really had a great experience working at AkzoNobel, Hyderabad.
