Electrify Your Career with EEE branch!!
Sakshi Education
Electrical and Electronics Engineering one of the core engineering branches, which enjoys an evergreen demand in job market. Subject of this branch covers generation, transmission, distribution and utilization of power, storage and control. In the span of 4 years of engineering, First year is dedicated to Fundamentals of Physics, Chemistry, Maths, English, Engineering Drawing and C programming. These fundamentals provide basic knowledge that is of great help to understand the subjects that are offered in the subsequent years of study.
The subjects of EEE branch are quite interlinked. For example, the following chart shows linkages among different Electrical, Electronics and Communications subjects-
Subjects that are shown in the above chart broadly belong to the areas of Environment and Sustainability, Hardware, Software, Signal Processing, Power Generation, Transmission and Utilization and Control and Instrumentation, among others. Following are the full details of this classification.
Environment & Sustainability: Power Electronics, Renewable energy sources, Electrical Machines - II & III & Power Semiconductor Drives, Micro Processors and Micro Controllers.
Signal Processing: Signals & Systems, Switching Theory & Logic Design and Digital Signal Processing.
Generation, Transmission Distribution of Power: Power Systems-I, Power Systems-II, Switchgear & Protection, Utilization of Electrical Energy and Power System Analysis.
Control & Instrumentation: Control systems, Modern Control systems, Micro Processors and Micro Controllers, Digital Signal Processing and PLCS.
Everyday Devices Utilization: Utilization of Electrical Energy and Measurements & Instrumentation.

Soft ware: C programming, C++ through Data structures and Database management systems.
Design / Simulation of Power electronics & Power Systems: MATLAB, PSCAD, Mi-Power, LAB view, ECAD, dSPACE, EMTP, MASM, ARM, Cadence tools etc.
The graduates of Electrical & Electronics Engineering have following career options after successful completion of their 4-year programme:
MATLAB: MATLAB is used for wide range of applications which includes signal processing, communications, Image & Video processing, control systems, test and Measurement, computational finance, etc,. More than a million engineers and Scientists in Industry and academia use MATLAB. It is a powerful language of technical computing.
Labview: Developed by national instruments, India. It is system design software that provides engineers and Scientists with the tools needed to create and deploy measurement and control systems through unprecedented hard ware integration. It inspires to solve, EE problems, accelerates productivity and innovate products.
ECAD: Electrical CAD for electrical control designers. It is created for electrical control systems. This tool includes all the functionality of Auto CAD plus a complete set of electrical CAD features. Comprehensive symbol libraries and tools for automating electrical design takes help to save hours of effort.
PSCAD: It is a software developed for analyzing and designing Analog, Digital Electronic & Electrical Circuits and Power Electronic systems also. With PSCAD you can build, simulate, and model your systems with ease, providing limitless possibilities in power system simulation. Included is a comprehensive library of system models ranging from simple passive elements and control functions, to electric machines and other complex devices.
Mi-power: Developed by PRDC Bangalore. Mi-power is a highly interactive user-friendly based power system analysis package. It includes set of modules for performing a wide range of power system design and analysis study. Features include top notch windows GUI with centralized database. Steady-state and electro-magnetic transient analysis can be done using this tool with accuracy.
dSPACE: It is a Prototype hardware & software. Industries like automotive, aerospace, defense, commercial, industrial automation, medical technology and many others rely on dSPACE systems to develop and test electronic control units. Modeling of blocks can be done first using MATLAB /SIMULINK. Then those blocks have to be implemented in real time environment using digital signal processing and control engineering (dSPACE) prototyping hardware.
EMTP-RV (Electromagnetic Transient Program): It is for simulation and analysis of power system transients. It is used by many utilities, companies, consultants worldwide for projects, design and engineering.
MASM: It is a tool that can produce any algorithm you know enough about to write. It is not for the faint of heart, it is technically demanding tool that requires a good working knowledge of both the operating system and the available mnemonics that the processor supports but it puts the final control of an algorithm in the hands of the programmer who chooses to master a tool of this type.
ARM: It is a family of instruction set architectures for computer processors based on a reduced instruction set computing (RISC) architecture developed by British company ARM Holdings.
A RISC-based computer design approach means ARM processors require significantly fewer transistors than typical processors in average computers.
This approach reduces costs, heat and power use. These are desirable traits for light, portable, battery-powered devices—including smart phones, laptops, tablet and notepad computers), and other embedded systems. A simpler design facilitates more efficient multi-core CPUs and higher core counts at lower cost, providing higher processing power and improved energy efficiency for servers and supercomputers.
Trial versions of above all tools/ software can be downloaded free from internet and try using them.
Mastering in any one of the above tools would really help the Graduates to get wonderful placement.
Attending the classes in every semester regularly and spending the time to learn and become master in any one of the above tools during summer/winter break would really make a graduate different from others. Completing relevant certifications or courses from premier institutes such as C-DAC and National Power Training Institute would take your job prospects to new heights. Hard work with sincerity and commitment during these four years would make your next 40 years of life in high spirits.

The graduates of Electrical & Electronics Engineering have following career options after successful completion of their 4-year programme:
- Job in core companies such as ABB Ltd, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, ECIL, NHPC, DRDO, DRDL, SAIL, GAIL, ONGC, APGENCO, APTRANSCO, APDISCOM, Vizag steel plant, BARC, Vizaya Electricals Ltd, Jindal Steel & Power Limited, Solar Power, Wind Power and BIO- mass industry.
Public Sector under takings (PSUs) are now recruiting graduates through GATE Score. So Preparation for GATE entrance exam helps in two ways, one is chance of doing masters in reputed institutes such as IISC, IITs, NITs and university colleges in India and second is possibility of getting absorbed in PSUs. In AP Govt Power sector and other private sectors, they have their own methods of recruitment. Excellent pay is offered in PSUS which is 2 to 3 times of pay normally they get in software industry. - Doing masters in India at premier institutes. Graduates get Rs. 8000/- pm stipend also during the study.
- Going for masters in USA, Germany, UK and other European countries. Graduates need to write GRE & TOEFL / IELTS and get reasonably good score to get admission with scholarship.
- Job in software companies such as DE shaw Ltd, Infosys, Qualcom, TCS, CTS, Wipro and many other. Knowledge of C and C++, data structures is sufficient to face an interview. But they expect minimum of first class in Engineering as a prerequisite.
- Electrical & Electronic systems Analyst, Design and implementation engineer: Graduates are expected to learn any one of these tools. MATLAB, Labview, PSCAD, Mi-Power, dSPACE, EMTP, MASM, ARM, Cadence tools are available for electrical engineering graduates to get placed in those companies. During engineering study, Practice on above tools is minimal, so extra time they need to spare to learn the tools during summer / winter vacation. Among all MATLAB has gained great popularity both in industry and research organizations. Many institutes have come up to train them on these tools. Job satisfaction can be expected if career is chosen in core companies. Software companies though they are recruiting EE graduates but pushing them mostly towards testing side but not development side.
