Mandatory faculty-based biometric attendance for Engineering
- Mandatory faculty-based biometric attendance
- Only teaching with qualified professors
- JNTUH to monitor
- The process will take effect after October 16
JNTUH will make Aadhaar-linked biometric attendance mandatory after October 16 in all engineering, pharmacy and management colleges across the state. It has already developed specialized software for attendance monitoring in collaboration with all colleges. As a result, the relevant subjects will have to be taught by qualified faculty. This will put an end to the academic teaching that many colleges have been doing with ineligibility so far. Colleges will also have to pay salaries to faculty on time. In fact, JNTUH announced last month that it would launch biometric attendance from the first of this month. However, varsity officials said there was some delay in the implementation of the policy.
Cheating for years
JNTUH has 145 engineering, 70 pharmacy and 10 management colleges with 30,000 faculty members. According to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) regulations, a lecturer must be a professor. As well as having done a PhD as a principal duty. But most colleges are cheating students in terms of faculty. They continued teaching with those who do not have required qualifications. This is causing academic standards to fall. Looking at the statistics for the last five years, only 40 per cent of those receiving a quality education in engineering were available. The rest of the students are facing many difficulties for employment. Many are struggling with backlogs. Officials say the biometric was brought in to prevent this. A field study by JNTUH found that biometrics were being implemented in accordance with regulations but were flawed.
Aadhaar Link Mandatory
Aadhaar Linked Biometric Attendance is mandatory and the instructor is required to attend biometric attendance in the morning and evening. It will be linked to JNTUH so officers will have the opportunity to monitor it on a daily basis. There will be a way for the authorities to compare the biometric registration details with the respective colleges' times. Also, the basic numbers of the faculty members will be linked to the biometric system so that their salary details will be easily known, like - if they are getting paid by colleges or if they are working elsewhere. Officials say this makes it impossible to show fake people in the records.
Jobs stand out with biometrics
Nearly 30,000 faculty members will receive regular salaries if the authorities strictly enforce biometric attendance in engineering colleges. This leads to quality education in engineering.

Good for the students
Biometric attendance is good for the students as biometric attendance makes inevitable that teaching will be done by a qualified teacher. It benefits students. There has been some delay in the process of linking with Aadhaar.
