- Sports Ministry approves inclusion of Gatka, Mallakhamba, Kalaripayattu and Thang-Ta in Khelo India Youth Games 2021
The Ministry of Sports included Gatka, Kalaripayattu, Thang-Ta and Mallakhamba in Khelo India Youth Games 2021.
The Khelo India Programme is a national yojana/scheme for the development of sports in India, launched in 2018. The Khelo Indian Games 2021 is scheduled to be held in Haryana.
Gatka originated from the state of Punjab. It is the traditional fighting style of the "Nihang Sikh" warriors, used for self-defense and sports.
Kalaripayattu is a traditional martial art form derived from Kerala. It is considered the oldest surviving martial art in India and one of the oldest surviving martial arts in the world. Its origin can be traced back to at least the 3rd century BCE.
Thang-Ta is a martial art form from Manipur. It is part of the martial art Huyenlanglon. Thang-Ta means armed combat. Another aspect of Huyenlanglon is saritsarak (unarmed combat). "Thang" means sword and "Ta" means spear-both are Huyenlanglon's main weapons.
Mallakhamba or Mallakhamb is a traditional sport that originated in the Indian subcontinent. In this sport, gymnasts perform aerial yoga or gymnastics postures and wrestling grip with vertical stationary or hanging wooden pole, cane, or rope. Three popular versions of Mallakhamb were practiced using Sheesham poles, crutches or ropes. In 2013, it was declared a state-run sport in Madhya Pradesh.

Break-dancing became an official Olympic sport.
The International Olympic Committee’s pursuit of urban events to lure a younger audience saw street dance battles officially added to the medal events program at the 2024 Paris Games.
Also confirmed for Paris by the IOC executive board were skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing.
Breakdancing was proposed by Paris organizers almost two years ago after positive trials at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.
- India beat Australia by 11 runs in first T20 International at Canberra
India beat Australia by 11 runs in the first T20 International against here on Friday. KL Rahul top-scored for India with a 40-ball 51 while Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 44 from 23 balls as India posted 161 for 7 in their 20 overs after being put in to bat.
India is leading the three match series one-nil. The second T20 match will be played on the 6th of December at Sydney Cricket Ground.
