Lok Sabha discusses on Climate Change under House Rule 193
Hanuman Beniwal of RLP said, Rajasthan is one of the states affected by climate change. He said, often farmers are accused of causing pollution, leaving more pollutant industries like the cement sector without any question.Bhartruhari Mahtab of BJD suggested the Government to review the blanket orders on phasing out 15-years old vehicles. He said, Odisha is one of the states affected due to climate change, experiencing floods or cyclones for the last two decades. He emphasized the need for Climate justice, and importance of climate friendly lifestyles.
Agatha Sangma, of NPP, referring to the Indian Council for Forest Research and Education reports, appealed to the Government to reconsider the Palmoil Mission in states like in the North east which are rich in bio diversity, saying the Palm oil mission may adversely affect it.Suresh Kodikunnil of Congress said, developed countries are forcing developing countries to pay for their greenhouse emissions. He claimed, some of the islands in Kerala are affected due to climate change.
BSP MP Danish Ali questioned the motives behind India not signing the Global leaders statement on stopping deforestation by 2030.Independent member Navneet Rana said, a programme to protect water bodies from pollution has to be initiated. Ganesh Singh of BJP, Aparupa Poddar of AITC and Chandresh Prasad of JD (U) also participated in the discussion on Climate Change.
