Germany Legalises Recreational Cannabis!!

Germany has taken a historic step, becoming the largest nation in the European Union to legalize recreational cannabis use for adults over 18. This move, effective April 1, 2024, allows adults to possess up to 25 grams of dried cannabis and cultivate up to three marijuana plants at home.

While some politicians and medical groups voiced opposition, the German government sees this as a positive development. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach believes it will improve addiction treatment, prevention efforts, and weaken the black market.

Europe's Shifting Cannabis Landscape

Germany joins Malta and Luxembourg at the forefront of liberal cannabis laws in Europe. Interestingly, the Netherlands, previously known for its relaxed approach, has recently tightened regulations to address cannabis tourism.

Celebrating a New Era

The legalization was met with enthusiasm, with around 1,500 people celebrating in central Berlin, some even lighting up near the Brandenburg Gate.

Looking Ahead: Cannabis Clubs on the Horizon

From July 1, 2024, a new system of cannabis clubs will be implemented. These clubs, capped at 500 members each, will be authorized to distribute up to 50 grams of cannabis per person per month.
