Argentina’s libertarian Javier Milei as its new president
  • Argentina has chosen right-wing libertarian Javier Milei as its new president, marking a decisive shift toward an outsider with unconventional views to address economic challenges, including triple-digit inflation, an impending recession, and escalating poverty. In the presidential runoff vote held yesterday, with 97.6% of votes counted, Milei secured 55.8%, while Economy Minister Sergio Massa received 44.2%, according to Argentina's electoral authority.

  • If this margin endures, it would surpass predictions from all polls and represent the widest victory since Argentina's return to democracy in 1983.
