10th Land port between India and Bangladesh inaugurated at Dawki in Meghalaya

- The 10th Landport between India and Bangladesh was inaugurated at Dawki in Meghalaya by State Minister for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai on Thursday. Speaking at the inaugural function, Minister Nityanand Rai said that the landport will boost trade and facilitate easier travel between the two countries. It will strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two countries and open up many new opportunities, said the Minister.
- Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya Sniawbhalang Dhar, High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Pranay Verma, Chairman, Landport Authority of India Aditya Mishra and Bangladesh Landport Authority Chairman Mohammad Alamgir were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.
- Dawki landport provides facilities like the passenger and cargo terminal buildings, warehouse, canteen, toilet blocks for export drivers, sewage treatment plant among others to facilitate movement of people and trade between the two countries.
- The Dawki landport is situated about 84 kilometres away from the Meghalaya capital Shillong. On the Bangladesh side, it faces Tamabil in Sylhet district.
- The Dawki landport will serve as an important economic and transportation hub between India and Bangladesh. Opening of the landport on the Indian side will substantially ease the movement of people and goods across the borders of the two countries.
