Andhra Pradesh: ‘B’ category seats for merit students

Merit students will now be eligible for ‘B’ category (Management) quota seats in private, unaided, non-minority engineering and other professional colleges in Andhra Pradesh. These seats will be filled by the government through the convener. It will come into effect from this academic year. The state government has recently issued orders. In the past, ‘B’ category seats were arbitrarily filled by the respective colleges in defiance of government regulations. Seats were available only to those who pay high fees.

In this regard, GO 25 was issued on July 25 last year. Special Secretary to the Government Satish Chandra has recently released GO 48 with some amendments to fill them by the Convener this academic year. Accordingly, the management   quota seats will also be filled by web counseling. About 70 per cent of the total seats in the respective colleges are convenor-quota (‘A’ category) seats and 30 per cent are management quota seats.

The filling of ‘B’ category NRI seats is as follows.
Of the 30 per cent seats under the management quota, 15 per cent are under NRI quota and 15 per cent under non-NRI quota.
NRI quota seats can be filled with NRI students by giving.
They must be filled before the start of AP EAPCET Admissions Counseling process. These seats are to be given only to those who have secured 50 per cent marks in the prescribed qualifying examinations.
Colleges can charge a fee of US $ 5,000 from NRI students. Seats which are not filled in the NRI quota are considered as ‘B’ category non-NRI quota seats.
The replacement of ‘B’ category non-NRI seats is as follows.
The respective colleges should inform the convener the details of the remaining seats instead of being filled in the ‘B’ category. These will be filled by Web Counseling of AP EAPCET Admissions Convenor.
As per the recommendations of the State Education Control and Monitoring Commission, the respective management can charge up to three times the fee fixed by the government for ‘A’ category seats depending on the course in the respective colleges.  
Students who get these seats are not eligible for Jaganna Vidya Deevena, Vasati Deevena schemes.
Students should give different options for ‘A’ category and ‘B’ category non-NRI seats in web counseling.
 ‘A’ category as well as ‘B’ category seats will also be filled by the Convenor at the same time on merit basis.
Candidates selected for ‘B’ category non-NRI seats can apply for ‘A’ category seats if they have achieved merit in AP EAPCET.
 ‘B’ category non-NRI seats are filled by JEE and AP EAPCET merit.
The remaining seats can be filled by the respective colleges with spot qualifications under spot admissions by Convener. It requires the approval of the relevant authorities.
