The Supreme Court refused to intervene in TGPSC Group-1 Mains Exam postponement

The Telangana Group-1 Mains exam has been cleared for conduct as the Supreme Court has refused to intervene in its postponement. The court stated that since the matter is already under review in the Telangana High Court, it cannot interfere at this stage.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court also denied issuing any interim orders. It emphasized that the High Court had already issued clear instructions regarding the conduct of the Mains exam. Additionally, the Supreme Court directed the High Court to complete its hearing by November 20. With candidates already having arrived at the examination centers, the Supreme Court made it clear that postponing the exams at this point would be inappropriate.

Impact of G.O. 29

It is worth noting that candidates had filed petitions challenging the lack of adherence to reservations during the preliminary stage of the Group-1 exam. They argued that G.O. 29 had caused injustice to SC, ST, and BC candidates, as it did not follow the rule of reservations in the merit-based open category. The petitioners objected to the fact that SC, ST, and BC candidates who had qualified on merit in the open category were being counted under reserved categories, thus preventing others from benefiting from reservations. The petitioners claimed that this practice violated previous Supreme Court rulings.
