Ragging in any an educational institution, is considered a crime and is punishable by law: S. Sathish Kumar, IPS

Amaravati, 13 August 2024,: VIT-AP University organized an Anti-Ragging awareness program on August 13, 2024, aimed at reinforcing the importance of maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students. The program underscored the university's commitment to preventing any form of ragging and fostering a respectful academic atmosphere.

The event featured a keynote address by S.Sathish Kumar IPS – Superintendent of Police, Guntur district who emphasized the strict prohibition of ragging both within and outside educational institutions under the A.P. Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997. He highlighted the serious consequences of engaging in ragging, including suspension and dismissal from the college. He elaborated on the UGC regulations established in 2009 to combat ragging in higher educational institutions.

  • Formation of Anti-Ragging Committees: Every educational institution must form a committee led by the head of the institution, with representatives from civil and police administration, local media, NGOs, faculty, parents, and students.
  • Anti-Ragging Committee Responsibilities: The committee is tasked with ensuring compliance with anti-ragging laws, monitoring Anti-Ragging Squads, and overseeing anti-ragging initiatives.

VIT-AP University Vice-Chancellor Dr. S.V. Kota Reddy addressed the students, urging them to focus on their career goals and avoid distractions that could hinder their progress. He expressed confidence in the capabilities of today’s students, emphasizing that their potential for achievement is immense if they channel their efforts productively. The observance of the Anti-Ragging awareness program at VIT-AP University reaffirms the institution’s dedication to creating a respectful and secure educational environment for all its students.

The ceremony concluded with VIT-AP University Registrar Dr. Jagadish Chandra Mudiganti leading the students in an anti-ragging pledge. Dr. Khadeer Pasha, Deputy Director of Student Welfare, along with Assistant Directors Dr. Rakhi, Dr. Manas, Dr. Krishnasami were also present on the occasion.
