Research is the only way for our self reliance: Sujit Kumar (GATE 2013 All India Topper in ECE)
Sakshi Education
The ICs we use in Television is still imported from foreign companies. The only way to reverse this situation is to develop our research base and GATE is the starting step to pursue this. I left the job to reach my goal and did it with my parents' support. On achieving first rank in GATE 2013 (ECE), B.Sujith kumar shares his success story with sakshieducation
Achievements:
10th standard(2004): 9th ranker in the state with 579 marks
Intermediate(2006): 921 marks
EAMCET(2006): 602 rank
AIEEE (2006): 1753 rank
IIIT Hyderabad(2010): 8.4 CGPA
B.Tech in IIIT:
I am a native of Mangalpad in Nizamabad and as my father worked as botany lecturer in Bhodan, I studied till 10th standard there. I completed intermediate at a private college in Hyderabad and B.Tech in IIIT Hyderabad.
Left Job offer:
After completing B.Tech (E.C.E) in 2010, I got selected in Kritikal Solutions as an embedded engineer through campus placements. I was not satisfied irrespective of the attractive package. The electronic components which we import for our use is the reason which led to my dissatisfaction. This feeling crept into my mind for the first time when I was doing the research project on Robotics in IIIT Hyderabad. This drived me to take research and invent new products. To fulfill my motto, I started attempting GATE in 2011,2012 while doing job. For GATE 2013, I left the job and attempted and was confident of getting a rank in top 10. I am very gald that I secure top rank.
Rectified the shortfalls:
I am attempting GATE from 2011, but put all my efforts from August last year... studied 8 hours a day. I did my preparation rectifying the shortfalls of my previous attempts. Practicing the problems at the end of the chapter helped me a lot. As application oriented problems appear in GATE, I led my preparation in that way.
Specialization in VLSI:
I will choose institutions where VLSI, Analog Signal Designing are offered. IIT Bombay, Chennai and IISc Bangalore are offering these specializations.
Research in VLSI:
My aim is to do research in Electronics and chose VLSI as a research topic. I will do job for some time and after getting experience, will establish a firm.
Advice to students:
The students have to leave the misconception that GATE is a tough exam. The syllabus is same as that of B.Tech. So by interlinking the theory and problem solving approach of the B.Tech syllabus, one may easily get good rank in the GATE exam. Plan your preparation from B.Tech second year for the GATE exam. As majority of the companies are prefering post graduates, cracking GATE will be a good step ahead for a bright career.
