When did you first think of writing the Engineering Service Exam?
I was preparing for Civil services since 3 years and attempted two times for the exam, but luck did not favour me. With the advice of seniors and friends, I wrote the IES exam 2010. As a gold medalist in B.Tech I felt the exam easier. I am very happy for getting 2nd rank in the exam.

Where did you take coaching? What was your methodology in preparing for Engineering Service Exam?
I did not take any special coaching for the exam. I am presently working as Assistant Executive Engineer in maintenance wing of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Board (Got selected through the APPSC exam conducted in 2009). I decided to prepare for Engineering Service Exam in January 2010. It took at least two months for gathering books for preparation. I could not get ample time for study because of my job. It became hard to read more than 5 to 6 hours daily. I took leave for the last two months of preparation and  took  help of a coaching institute for facing the interview.

Who is the motivation behind your success?
I owe my success to my mother Rajarajeshwari. She always motivated me and my brother which made us achieve this kind of success. My brother is pursuing MBA in IIM Ahemadabad.

What is your approach on the exam day?
Exam was conducted on 26, 27 and 28 June. First day is for 200 marks consisting of General Studies and English. The second day exam is 2 hours duration each for 400 marks both the morning and the afternoon session. The final day is the conventional paper for 400 marks both the morning and the afternoon session for 3 hours each. In my opinion, if one can get 50 to 52 percent in the written exam can be sure of getting top rank.

How did you prepare for the exam?
Due to the time constraint I started with preparing the previous papers of IES (2008 onwards). Seniors had helped me clear the doubts. Practicing question papers gave me a chance to assess my strengths and weakness and accordingly continued my preparation. Analyzing the previous papers and assessing the trend in questions, solving problems and presentation skills are the crucial aspect of the exam. Presentation skills are essential for scoring good marks.

Which books and material did you follow in the preparation?
I followed the academic books for preparation. As I am from Civil Engineering I studied all the text books of the four year engineering course. This fetched me well for the exam. We have 12-13 subjects like Structural Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Soil Mechanics and Environmental Engineering etc...

How was your interview with the Board?
I was interviewed by four member P.K.Mishra Board. As I am working in the Water Board I was asked questions on osmosis, reverse osmosis and cricket. I did answer them in a confident manner. The board was impressed on the way I faced the interview panel.

Did you write any exams other than the IES?
Yes, I wrote the IOCL, ONGC and other exams and got selected but preferred Hyderabad for job due to my strong desire in preparing for the Civil Services.

What are your future goals?
Becoming an IAS officer is my dream and I am striving towards achieving it.
