Malladi Hari Krishna
All India 1st rank
GATE – 2010

Malladi Hari Krishna, pursuing B.Tech. 4th year in CVSR college of engineering. He was a not-so-sharp student in school and college. But he always tried to give his best performance in the class. The main reasons for his success are his passion and determination. He loves computer science and he has a very strong will to achieve the pinnacle of success. With his immense passion and hardwork he won the race and he got the top rank in GATE 2010.

I was a not-so-sharp student in school and in inter also. I did my schooling at Little Flower High School, Abids, passing SSC with 87%. And my intermediate at Delta Junior college with 82.4%. and B.Tech. at CVSR college of engineering, Hyderabad. I'm still in my final year at CVSR. I started my preparation since day 1 of my 1st year. IISc was my childhood dream. I inspired myself to do this. I even look at bio graphies of great men for inspiration. The preparation was very enjoyable to me, as I found immense passion in it. Hence the question of stress doesn't arise. My life goal is to become a scientist and to serve India and to uplift the masses in India.

GATE preparation:
When I started my preparation, I only aimed to give it my best shot, with no stress on the rank. I spared no expense in efforts, to master the subjects covered in the syllabus. I just made sure that I had nothing lacking on my part. The main reasons for my success are my PASSION and DETERMINATION. I simply love computer science and I have a very strong will to achieve the pinnacle of success. Hence, it's only obvious that I won the race.

Revision:
I completed the syllabus in December and I took January and half of February to complete my revision. I revised twice, the entire syllabus. I felt that DBMS was going over my head. And I felt all others as relatively easy and manageable.

2 months before GATE:
The last 2 months were totally devoted towards making myself faster and ever more efficient. I reduced my silly mistakes and increased my speed and accuracy. By then the entire syllabus had been done. So the focus was on speed and efficiency. I just gave it my maximum efforts. Hence, I expected a good rank. I didn't expect first rank, ofcourse!!

Books:
I followed only the standard text books.

My methodology:
I didn't try to master the most asked topics or the easiest ones. I just mastered the whole unified subject as one thing. That gave me the incredible feel of things and the confidence that I can solve any problem if I made no silly mistakes.

Suggestion to GATE aspirants:
I'd like GATE aspirants to take up GATE preparation only if they are thorough fanatics and are ready to do extensive research work. Because, only with immense passion, is it possible to get the top ranks in GATE.
