Sakshi Education
Topping the toughest exam with 100% marks is not an ordinary achievement. Our Hyderabad lad Manohar Anand is one among the eight gems who did it. Let us know the sutra of success from this year’s CAT topper, a final year Computer Science student of IIT Madras.
Did you ever imagine that you will top the exam?
No, not at all. Getting 100% marks is a dream comes true for me.
How do you feel of the success?
I am feeling very happy. As preparation time was less, I did not hope the best for the results. But getting 100% is the most cherishing.
Can you tell us about your education and family background?
My father Subramaniam is a teacher and my mother is a house wife. I completed my 10th and intermediate in Hyderabad. Due to my interest in mathematics, I opted for Engineering. With good rank in IIT-JEE, I got Computer Science seat in IIT Madras.
How did you prepare for the CAT exam?
I took no coaching for the exam. I started serious preparation just few weeks before the exam. Due to less time available, I had to plan meticulously. While studying the subject material, I preferred doing the online mock tests which formed the basis of my readiness for the exam. They made me analyse my strengths and weakness. Through this I found a problem with the reasoning section. I overcame it by giving frequent mock tests.
How to improve scores among different sections in the exam?
To score 100% in the exam one need to answer the questions from logical ability, data interpretation and verbal reasoning in less time. For this, command in the subject, thinking ability and making decisions in a fast and timely manner are essential. Mock tests help a lot in scoring well in the exam.
How should be the preparation strategy for cracking the CAT exam?
One must first get awareness towards the exam. Exam preparation should be section based and writing mock tests is the important aspect of the exam. Write as many mock tests as possible. By doing so, you may be able to analyse your strengths and weakness and thereby do your preparation accordingly.
Your preferred specialization in M.B.A…
My preference is the specialization in finance. This has great scope in terms of job opportunities and challenges they pose, as almost all entities from small companies to MNCs depend on their financial planning. With expertise in this subject, sky is the limit for one’s career prospects.
The reason behind taking management as the career being a technocrat…
In this fast changing world, the boundaries between engineering and business management have been erased. Be it business or technological invention, should be interlinked to each other for either of its success. Knowing this fact, I showed interest in doing an M.B.A.
Your advice to the M.B.A aspirants…
Management Education is in great demand in the country as India is showing promising future for the career. For a good career in management, one should learn to work at any circumstances be it favourable or unfavourable and my suggestion to the CAT aspirants is, it doesn’t matter whether you prepare for a long term or a short term, get strong hold on the subject and practice thoroughly for success in the exam.
