Elucidate the following quotations (a) "Integrity has no need for rules." (b) "I am persuaded there is among the mass of our people a fund of wisdom, integrity, and humanity which will preserve their happiness in a tolerable measure."

(a) Integrity
The dictionary defines it as “the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.” Integrity is inherent. It is voluntary. It needs no enforcement. It is driven by deep realisation of the need to be fair and just. Our integrity is an integral part of who we are and what we stand for. It means to stand up for what we believe. It means to have the courage of our convictions. A person of integrity recognizes the consequences of one’s actions on others and wants to ensure that the impact is positive by encouraging the good and discouraging the bad.

If we have the courage of our convictions, we have the confidence to do what we believe is right, even though other people may not agree or approve.

Integrity is honesty even while no one is watching. It is voluntary and not forced.
Integrity is a foundational moral virtue, and the bedrock upon which good character is built.

Acting with integrity means understanding, accepting, and choosing to live in accordance with one’s principles, which will include honesty, fairness, and decency. A person of integrity will consistently demonstrate good character by being free of corruption and hypocrisy.

Integrity is revealed when people act virtuously regardless of circumstance or consequences. This often requires moral courage.

Integrity is essential for civil servants as they deal with hundreds of millions of people expecting huge resources of the government to be spent on them according to principles of common good.
(b) Wisdom of the masses Career Guidance

The progress of the societies in history so far has been the work, as much of the leaders as the masses. If we believe democracy is the best form of political organization and distribution of power, it is the masses that make it possible. Their expectations from the government are what makes legislation people-centered. They demand education, welfare and rule of law and so we have them. They have every reason to be moral and human. They ensure good governance by changing governments. It is they who make the economy produce more and more. Masses demand gender parity and so we are striving for it.
