IAS is my goal: A.Raviteja (GATE 2013 2nd ranker in E.E.E)

A Raviteja secured all India second rank in Electrical stream from one lakh fifty thousand appeared for GATE 2013. He shares his endeavors with Sakshi

I am from Rajamundry. My mother Padma Kumari is a Govt teacher and my father Venkata Krishna works in BSNL. I have a brother and sister. I am presently in the final year of B.Tech E.E.E. in NIT Warangal. My parents’ support in my success is immense. They always encouraged me in my endeavors.

Chose NIT Warangal:
I did not appear for EAMCET due to my ill health. With a State level rank in AIEEE, joined in NIT Warangal. I also got a seat in BITS (Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences), but I chose NIT Warangal for its track record of being placed in 11th position amongst the best colleges in India. My admirer, civils topper Mutyala Raju is also from the NIT warangal which inspired me to chose the college.

Preparation:

I attempted the GATE exam in Electrical stream. As I was in the final year, I did my preparation balancing the regular classes with the GATE and placements. I scheduled my preparation for 7 to 8 hours daily. Continuity in studies with no gaps is the essential part of my preparation. Making revision of the finished parts and practicing mock tests helped a lot. The class notes and the guidance and support of my teachers enhanced my preparation. I expected the rank below 100, I was very happy being placed second all over India.

Advice to the students:

There is a misconception among the students that two months prior to the GATE exam is sufficient for preparation. The electrical syllabus for the GATE is so extensive and requires at least six months preparation. We should balance GATE preparation and B. Tech classes. The syllabus has to be categorised subject wise for preparation and appearing for mock tests helps us analyse our preparation level.

Future goal:

I was very much inspired by the Civils topper Muthyala Raju and put my career goal to become an IAS officer. Even though I got the GATE score, I have no interest in joining post graduation but instead wanted to apply for the Public Sector Units those select candidates through the GATE rank. Further, I decided to prepare for the Civils and the Engineering services while doing the Govt Job. Presently I have a job offer from Emerson Network through the campus placements.
