GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test)

It is administered by Graduate Management Admission Council (or GMAC) and required for admission to most U.S., Canadian, and European business school MBA programs. These Schools use the test as one predictor of academic performance in an MBA program or in other graduate management programs. Over 1900 graduate business schools around the world use GMAT scores as a part of their admission process.

GMAT stands for Graduate Management Admission Test. The GMAT is an essential element in the evaluation of an applicant, and schools give great importance to the test. GMAT is a deciding element in your application. Candidates can take GMAT as many times as one wants. But one cannot take it more than once a month. GMAT score is valid for five years. This test result can be used for admission into business Ph D program, such as Harvard Business School DBA program.

Test Pattern:
  • It tests the "mental intelligence" and the ability to make decision under time pressure.
  • "AWA (one Issue and one Argument)- 2 Questions-30 minutes for each essay.
  • Verbal: about 14 Reading Comprehension Questions (3 passages), 10 Critical Reasoning Questions and 17 Sentences Correction Questions) - 41 Questions- 75 minutes.
  • Quantitative: (about 13 Data Sufficiency, and 34 Problem Solving) - 37 Questions- 75 minutes.

Test Dates: The GMAT is given year round during working days. You can take the test at any time.
Registration Process:
To take the computer-based GMAT you must schedule an appointment by using any of the following four methods:
1. Make an appointment online, via the GMAC website (https://www.mba.com/mba/ Take the GMAT).
2. Call the test center of your choice directly. A current test-center list is available at the GMAC website https://www.mba.com
3. Call a central registration number: 1-800-717-GMAT.

Test Centers:

The computer-based GMAT is administered year-round at more than 500 locations, most of which are in North America. Testing centers are located at Prometric Testing Centers, Sylvan Learning Centers, certain colleges and universities, and ETS (Educational Testing Service) field offices. The official GMAT Bulletin contains a complete list of GMAT computer-based test centers; an updated list is available at the GMAC website (www.gmac.com).

Test Fees:
Registration- US$ 250, l Rescheduling- US$50 Just taking the tests doesn't clear your pathway to admission into MBA. After taking the test depending on the score the candidates need to apply to various B-SCHOOLS. GMAT® scores are not the be-all and end-all of your application. Your GMAT score is just one component of your application. While scoring high on the GMAT is a plus, your application essays, recommendation letters and resume also plays an equally important role.

Consider the statistics given below: Only 1% of all GMAT takers score 750 or higher. l 7% score 700. Admissions committee around the world use the GMAT as a standardized test to assess the qualifications of applicants for advanced study in business and management, they also value professional profile, extracurricular, leadership and teamwork experiences and the diversity that you bring to the table. A spectacular GMAT score does not guarantee a business school admission while a mediocre score will not keep you out of a program if you can bring other credentials to the table. Along with applications candidates also need to furnish the following aspects.
  • Xerox copy of score card
  • Letters of Recommendation
  • Bank statement l Notary
  • Xerox copy of all the Certificates
  • SOP- Statement of purpose/Essays
