Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) is the world's largest professional body of management accountants. Most accounting qualifications of CIMA train people for private practice, working on external audit and tax issues. CIMA prepares people for a career in business. It teaches skills for strategic advice, managing risk and making key decisions.

The Certificate in Business Accounting is the entry level accounting qualification for students with little or no accounting background. Employers around the world for its relevance to business regard the Professional Qualification as highly valuable.

The certificate in business accounting
Students can study and register for the five certificate exams. On average, students take one year to complete this level.

CIMA professional qualification
On average, students complete the ten professional qualification exams in four years. Most students attempt two or three exams at each sitting but they can be completed in three sittings.

Practical experience to become a member
You need three years experience before you can become a CIMA member. You can gain this experience while studying.

Entry routes for CIMA in India
CIMA has fast track routes for both members of professional bodies in India, and MBA holders.

If you are an MBA holder, you have a Master's gateway entry route.

Master's gateway assessment
As an MBA or a Master's in accounting holder, you are eligible to take up the gateway assessment. On successful completion of the exam, you will be granted 11 exemptions from the CIMA professional qualification (all exemptions are free) and will be awarded the CIMA advanced diploma in management accounting.

If you are a member of another professional body, adding CIMA will enhance your employability across sectors and borders.

As a member or passed finalist of ICAI (the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India), you may be eligible for advanced entry to CIMA through the CIMA gateway assessment (CGA) route.

As a member or passed finalist of ICWAI (the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India), you may be eligible for advanced entry to CIMA through the CIMA professional gateway assessment route.

Cost to the students:

CIMA students pay a one-time registration fee, an annual subscription fee, and a fee for each exam or exemption. New students do not have to pay their first subscription. If it takes you three years to complete CIMA and you pass every exam on the first attempt, it will cost around GBP1200.

The certificate in business accounting is examined by computer based assessment.
Find your assessment centre Search the list of CIMA preferred CBA centres. If there is no CIMA preferred CBA assessment centre near to you, then you can sit the assessment at your nearest Pearson VUE centre. Search the Pearson VUE centre list.

Joint PG diploma in management accounting and finance with CIMA
The students who complete this distance learning programme will receive a dual qualification: a C-PGDBA in finance from SCDL and an advanced diploma in management accounting from CIMA

Any graduate from a UGC recognised university is eligible to join the programme. Additionally, the students will be eligible to sit for the CIMA Masters Gateway examination in the fourth semester of their C-PGDBA
