  • Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari top archery trials
    Current Affairs Three women archers Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari from Jharkhand topped the National Olympic trials held in Pune to qualify for the Olympic qualifiers of the Archery Recurve team event to be held in Paris in July this year.

    After clearing the Olympic qualifiers for the team event in Paris, India will secure a place for Team Event in Archery for Tokyo Olympics. Deepika Kumari from Jharkhand has already secured her place for the Single's Event in Archery for Tokyo Olympics.

    Deepika, Ankita and Komalika have also made their chance to play in the upcoming two World Cup Archery to be held in Guatemala from April 19-25 and Shanghai from May 17-25 by giving their best performances in the National Olympic Trials.

  • ICC announces expansion of women's cricket events post 2023 cycle
    On the occasion of International Women's Day, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the expansion of women's cricket events post 2023 cycle.

    The ICC said, more teams will compete in both the Women's World Cup and Women's T20 World Cup from 2026 onwards as part of the ICC's long-term commitment to grow the game globally and in a sustainable fashion.

    The ICC said, two 50-over World Cups will be played in 2025 and 2029 while four T20 World Cups have been scheduled for 2024, 2026, 2028, and 2030. The sport's governing body has also announced the advent of a new tournament, called Women's T20 Champions Cup and it will be played in 2027 and 2031.

  • Kiren Rijiju flags off Walkathon on occasion of International Women’s Day
    Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju flagged off Walkathon on the occasion of International Women’s Day and to celebrate 125 Years of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s legacy.

    The Walkathon was flagged off from Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.

    Mr Rijiju said, women empowerment is the priority of the government.

    He said, Indian women are giving exceptional performance in various international sports disciplines and the government is providing an equal platform to all.
