    Army Sports Institute, Pune was awarded the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar 2020 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.

    Army Sports Institute:
    Army Sports Institute (ASI), Pune was raised as part of the Indian Army’s “Mission Olympics” programme on 1 July 2001. The programme was aimed to train the vast reservoir of talent in the Army in selected seven disciplines to include Archery, Athletics, Boxing, Diving, Fencing, Weightlifting, and Wrestling. The main objective was to win medals at the Olympics.

    The institute draws its sportsmen from the Army and young raw and proven talent in ‘Boys Sports Companies’ between 8 and 14 years of age.

    The selected sportsmen are supported by a team of Foreign, Indian coaches, specialists in Sports Medicine, physical conditioners, Physiology, Psychology, Biomechanics, Statistics, and Nutrition.

    The institute has enabled the participation of twenty sportsmen in the Olympics and 12 sportsmen have already qualified for the Tokyo 2021 Olympics with more yet to qualify.

    The Institute has won 6 Youth Olympic Medals, nineteen 19 medals in Asian Games, and 18 medals in Commonwealth Games.
