- Indian women's recurve team bags Gold medal at Archery World Cup
In the Archery World Cup, Indian women's recurve team including Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari won a gold medal in Guatemala yesterday.
Indian trio shot 27 to edge out their Mexican rivals by one point and claim their first World Cup team gold after seven years.
This is Deepika's fifth World Cup stage event team gold medal. In another match, the Indian mixed recurve team of Atanu Das and Ankita Bhakat won the bronze medal after a 6-2 victory over USA.

India won three gold medals on Friday at the ongoing Asian Wrestling Championships in Almaty.
VineshPhogat won her first gold in the Asian championships beating Meng Hsuan Hsieh of Taiwan in the 53-kg category final.
Anshu Malik in 57-kg and DivyaKakran in 72-kg category won their respective finals as India ended the competition with four gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
Indian tennis star Ankita Raina took a set off 2017 French Open winner, Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, before going down 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 in the opening match of the Billie Jean King Cup World Group play-off tie last night.

Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium will host the T20 World Cup final in November this year.
The BCCI has zeroed in on eight venues in all for the October-November T20 Cup, which include Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Dharamshala.
Moreover, the Pakistan cricket team will have no difficulty in travelling to India for the ICC T20 World Cup as the government is set to grant visas to the players from the neighbouring nation.
It has been learnt that BCCI secretary Jay Shah has informed the Apex Council about government's decision on giving visas to the Pakistan players.
India and Pakistan have not played bilateral series for many years now due to political tension between two countries.
PCB chairman Ehsan Mani had earlier said that they are looking for visas for not just the players and the media but also for their fans.
Whether fans will be allowed to travel across the border is still not clear because given the Covid-19 situation worldwide, there is very little chance that spectators would be allowed inside stadiums.
In another major development, BCCI, in principle, has decided to field both the men’s and the women’s teams at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics if the game is included in the roster.
- India Open badminton tournament 2021 stands postponed
India Open badminton tournament 2021 has been postponed in the wake of a sudden rise in the COVID-19 cases in New Delhi. The tournament was scheduled to be held at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall in New Delhi from May 11-16.
In an emergency discussion held with Badminton World Federation (BWF), Badminton Association of India (BAI) decided to postpone the upcoming Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2021.
BAI General Secretary Ajay Singhania said, considering the current challenges, BAI is left with no option but to announce the postponement of the tournament for the time being.
The BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament was classified as one of the last few qualification tournaments for the Tokyo Olympics and had attracted top players including Kenta Momota, Victor Axelsen and several other Top-10 players along with representation from 33 countries.
The 2021 edition was already scheduled to be held in a biosecure bubble with no spectators and media.
- World Youth Boxing C'ships: Indian women boxers create history with seven gold medals
In the World Youth Boxing championships, Indian women boxers put up sensational performances as they created history with seven gold medals in Kielce, Poland.
All the women finalists Gitika, NaoremBabyrojisanaChanu, Poonam, Vinka, Arundhati Choudhary, T SanamachaChanu andAlfiya Pathan registered their wins and finished on the top of the podium. Apart from the eight finalists, three others won bronze medals at the tournament, a performance which betters the 10 medals that India won in its best-ever show not too long back in the 2018 edition in Hungary.
The only Indian man in the final, Sachin (56kg) will be in action today. A 10-day biennial event has witnessed high competition in the presence of 414 boxers from 52 countries.
- Haryana to host 2021 Khelo India Youth Games from Nov 21 to Dec 5
The fourth edition of 'Khelo India Youth Games-2021' will be held in Panchkula, Ambala, Shahabad, Delhi and Chandigarh from November 21 to December 5, in which various sports activities under-18 category would be organised.
Besides this, some BRICS Games 2021 would also be organized during Khelo India. BRICS countries including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
This decision was taken in the first meeting of the Executive Committee constituted for the Khelo India Youth Games -2021 held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, Haryana, Vijai Vardhan at Chandigarh on Tuesday. Satya Narayan Meena, senior director, Khelo India, Sports Authority of India also attended the meeting through video conferencing.
- Indian wrestlers Anshu Malik & Sonam Malik secure Tokyo Olympics berths
In women wrestling, Indian Anshu Malik and Sonam Malik have secured the Tokyo Olympics berths in the 57-kg and 62-kg categories, respectively, despite settling for silver medals on the second day of the Asian Wrestling Olympic qualifiers in Almaty.
- Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju inaugurates KICE in Rowing in Srinagar
Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju inaugurated the Khelo India Centre of Excellence in Rowing in Srinagar yesterday.
The training centre, situated in Dal Lake, comes under the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council was upgraded with modern facilities and equipment including 16 new boats.
Four coxless four boats too have been purchased for the centre that has 50 regular athletes under the scheme.
- India clinches seven medals in women's wrestling Asian Championship titles
Indian wrestlers VineshPhogat and Anshu Malik clinched their maiden Asian Championship titles yesterday at Almaty, Kazakhstan as India ended with seven medals from the women's event with four gold. The event marred by the absence of countries China and Japan due to COVID-19, India also bagged one silver and two bronze medals.
- India finish Dubai Para Badminton with 20 medals
In Badminton, defending world champion Pramod Bhagat clinch two gold medals as India finished their campaign in the 3rd Sheikh Hamdan bin Al Maktoum Dubai Para-Badminton International 2021 in Dubai with 20 medals.
Krishna Nagar and Prem Kumar Ale were also brilliant on the day, winning the other two gold medals for India in combined SH6 and the mixed doubles WH1-WH2 categories.
India topped the tally with 20 medals (4 gold, 6 silver and 10 bronze medals), ahead of France who finished with eight medals (4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze) and Malaysia with seven medals (3 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze).
- Four sailors from India qualify for Tokyo Olympics
4 sailors created history from India by qualifying for this year’s Tokyo Olympics. Vishnu Saravanan and the pair of Ganapathy Chengappa and Varun Thakkar made the cut during the ongoing Asian Qualifiers in Oman.
This was after Nethra Kumanan, a day before in another Asian Olympic qualifier, became the first Indian woman sailor to qualify in the laser radial event in the Mussanah Open Championship.
However, bad news has hit the weightlifting arena where 2019 Commonwealth Championship gold medallist in the 64-kg category, Rakhi Halder, failed an out-of-competition dope test just ahead of the Olympic qualifying event next week.
She now stands provisionally suspended.
- India beat England by seven runs in final ODI
In Cricket, India beat England by seven runs in the third and final ODI in Pune last night to clinch the three-match series 2-1. Chasing a victory target of 330 runs, England could only reach 322 for nine in 50 overs, with Sam Curran smashing an unbeaten knock of 95 runs in 83 balls. He was declared Player of the match.
England batsman Jonny Bairstow was awarded the Player of the Series as the opener amassed 219 runs in the ODI series. Shardul Thakur was in top form for India, returning with four wickets and Bhuvneshwar Kumar scalped three dismissals. Also, T Natarajan took a wicket and held his nerves in the final over to take India to a thrilling series win. Earlier, the hosts were bowled out for 329 runs in 48.2 overs.
Rishabh Pant slammed a knock of 78 runs off 62 balls, and helped his side reach a competitive total. Shikhar Dhawan (67) and Hardik Pandya (64) also made decent contributions, scoring half-centuries against England. For England, Mark Wood took three wickets, and Adil Rashid registered two dismissals. Meanwhile, Sam Curran, Reece Topley, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone registered a wicket each against the hosts.
Virat Kohli-led side have now won all the series' in this England's tour of India. India claimed the Test series 3-1 and then won the five-match T20I series by 3-2. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jay Shah congratulated the Indian team following their 2-1 series win in the ODIs, saying that the hosts winning the limited-overs series after the Test series win is a "testament of consistency across formats".
The BCCI Secretary also thanked England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for their commitment towards the series. British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis also congratulated the home side for winning all the series' of the tour.

In Shooting, the Indian contingent brought the curtains down on a highly successful ISSF World Cup with the women and men's teams clinching gold medals in the Trap events today. The Indian trio of Shreyasi Singh, Manisha Keer and Rajeshwari Kumari won the gold medal in the women's Trap Team event. India outgunned the Kazakhstan trio 6-0 in the final to give the hosts their 14th gold medal.
In the men's Trap Team event, Kynan Chenai, Prithviraj Tondaiman and Lakshay beat the Slovakian team in the gold medal match to make it 30 medals for India in the shooting World Cup. India topped the medals tally with a whopping 30 medals in total - 15 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze.
- 2023 Men's Boxing World Championships to be held in Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent
The 2023 men's boxing World Championships will be held in Uzbekistan capital Tashkent. International Boxing Association (AIBA) President Umar Kremlev confirmed Tashkent as the host city during a visit to Uzbekistan.
The city of Tashkent is awarded the 2023 AIBA Men's boxing World Boxing Championships after the successful bid presentation by the Boxing Federation of Uzbekistan.
