  • IndiGo board appoints Pallavi Shardul as an independent director
    Current AffairsInterGlobe Aviation Limited operated IndiGo has appointed advocate Pallavi Shardul Shroff as independent woman director in the company.

    The appointment was approved by the board of directors of the airline.

    The appointment comes after the proposal initiated by IndiGo’s co-promoter Rakesh Gangwal who demanded the appointment of an independent woman director in the airline's board.

    He will serve the bank as the head for a decade - September 23, 2010-September 22, 2020.

  • Bulgaria's Kristalina Georgieva appointed new IMF chief
    Bulgaria's Kristalina Georgieva has been selected as the new head of the International Monetary Fund(IMF). She is the first person from an emerging market economy to lead the IMF. The economist succeeds Christine Lagarde for a five-year term from October.

    It is a huge responsibility to be at the helm of the IMF at a time when challenges to global economic growth and trade tensions persist.

    Her immediate priority is to help countries minimize the risk of crises and be ready to cope with downturns.

  • Anjali Singh becomes India's first female military diplomat
    Current AffairsAnjali Singh became India's first female military diplomat to be posted in any of the Indian missions abroad.

    Singh joined the Indian Embassy in Russia as the Deputy Air Attache. Singh is trained on MiG-29 fighter aircraft, joined her new assignment on September 10.

    She is the first female Indian Armed Forces Officer to be posted as a military diplomat in any of the Indian missions abroad.

    Singh is an AE (L) officer with 17 years of service. She is trained on MiG-29 aircraft,

  • UN Appoints Veteran Indian Officer to Lead Its Mission in Yemen
    UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed a veteran Indian Army official as the head of the world body's observer mission in Yemen's port city of Hodeidah.

    Lieutenant General (retired) Abhijit Guha appointed as the Chair of the Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC) and head of the UNMHA.

    He will succeed Lieutenant General Michael Lollesgaard who served as RCC Chair and head of UNMHA from January 31 to July 31.

  • Saudi Arabia appoints Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman as new Energy minister
    Current AffairsKingdom of Saudi Arabia appointed Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman as its new Energy minister, one of the most important positions in the government.

    He replaced the long time oil industry veteran Khalid Al Falih.

    Prince Abdulaziz is the son of the King of Saudi Arabia.

    He had earlier served as the Deputy and State Energy Minister for several years. It is the first time a member of the ruling Al Saud family has held the energy minister post in the world’s top oil exporter.

  • Kumari Selja appointed Haryana Congress chief, Bhupinder Hooda made CLP leader
    Former Union Minister and Congress MP, Kumari Selja will be the Congress Haryana unit chief. While Former state Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has been appointed as Congress legislature party leader and chairman of the state election committee.

    The announcement in this regard was made by Party Haryana in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad in New Delhi .

    The state will go to polls later this year.

  • CEC Sunil Arora assumes charge as AWEB Chairman
    Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on 03 September, 2019 assumed Chairmanship of Association of World Election Bodies, AWEB for the term 2019-21 as India takes over the Chair from Romania.

    India was unanimously nominated to be the Vice-Chair of AWEB at the last General Assembly held at Bucharest in 2017.

    The AWEB Flag was handed over to the new Chairman, Sunil Arora and it will remain with Election Commission of India for the two year term till 2021.

    More than 110 delegates from 45 countries attended the meeting.

    Mr. Arora announced that an AWEB Centre would be set up at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management, New Delhi for documentation, research and training and fr sharing best practices.

    He noted that a number of nascent democracies are still working to stabilize their political system through improving their electoral and legal systems.

    He highlighted that this is where organizations such as AWEB provide a valuable contribution, professional support and advice by sharing innovations, experience and skills with support from and participation of its Members.

  • Shweta Ratanpura created history
    Shweta Ratanpura became the first Indian woman to get a medal as the World Skills event.

    The event was held in Russia and was attended by 63 countries.

    India ended on number 13 with 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals.

    Apart from Shweta's bronze in graphic designing, Indian won silver in web technologies, another bronze in jewellery and gold in water technology.
