- Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde appointed as next Chief Justice of India by President
Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde appointed as the 47th Chief Justice of India by President.
Justice Bobde, 63, will take oath as the CJI on November 18, a day after incumbent Ranjan Gogoi demits office.
Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi had recommended the name of the next senior most judge in the Supreme Court pecking order, Justice Bobde, as his successor as per convention. The serving CJI Ranjan Gogoi will retire on November 17.
He will have a tenure of 17 months and would demit office on April 23, 2021. His Warrant of Appointment has been signed by President Ram Nath Kovind and a formal notification is expected shortly, the sources said.
- Nirmal Purja climbed 14 highest peaks in 189 days
The mountaineer from Nepal, Nirmal Purja, created a new speed record by climbing the world’s 14 highest peaks over 8,000 metres in just 189 days.
The 14th peak which he climbed was Shishapangma, located at Nyalam County, China.
The other 13 peaks are Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Kanchenjunga, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, K2, Broad Peak, Cho Oyu and Manaslu.
- Veteran CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta dies at 83
Former Parliamentarian and veteran CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta died in Kolkata today (31 October, 2019) after prolonged illness. He was 83. According to family sources Dasgupta was suffering from Heart and Kidney related ailments.
He was former Deputy General Secretary of CPI and well known trade unionist. Dasgupta was elected General Secretary of All India Trade Union Congress - AITUC, in 2001. He was member of Rajya Sabha and also elected in Lok Sabha from Midnapore district of West Bengal.
- First Lt. Governors of Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh
Indian Administrative Service officers Girish Chandra Murmu has been appointed as first Lt. Governor of Jammu-Kashmir and R K Mathur as Lt. Governor of Ladakh.
Mr P.S. Sreedharan Pillai has been appointed the new Governor of Mizoram. The incumbent Governor of the Jammu and Kashmir Satya Pal Malik has been moved to Goa.
While Murmu, a 1985-batch Gujarat cadre officer, is serving as the Expenditure Secretary in the Union Finance Ministry, Mathur, a 1977-batch officer, has served as the Defence Secretary and is a former Chief Information Commissioner (CIC). The two Union Territories will come into existence on 31st of October.
- Anup Kumar Singh appointed as Director-General of NSG
Senior IPS officer of Gujarat cadre Anup Kumar Singh has been appointed as Director-General of the National Security Guard (NSG).
The appointment of Mr Singh, who is a 1985-batch IPS officer, was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
His appointment will be from the date of joining the post and up to 30th of September, 2020.
- Air Chief Marshal Bhadauria takes charge as new IAF chief
Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria took charge as the 26th chief of the Indian Air Force. He succeeds Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa
He retired after 41 years of service in the IAF. Air Marshal Bhadauria commissioned in the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force in June 1980.
He held various command, staff and instructional positions. He was commissioned into the fighter stream of the IAF in June 1980
BACKGROUND:
He won the coveted 'Sword of Honour' for standing first in the overall order of merit.
Bhadauria commanded a Jaguar squadron and a premier Air Force Station. He devised a method for carrying bombing from the Jaguar aircraft using the Global Positioning System (GPS).
This was especially relevant for the bombing role of Jaguar aircraft in Operation Safed Sagar in 1999.
Bhadauria also has 4,250 hours of flying experience on 26 types of fighters and transport aircraft. He was the Air Attache at the Indian Embassy in Moscow, Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Projects), Commandant of the National Defence Academy, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff at Air Head Quarter and Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Air Command.
