  • Mali’s President, PM resign after arrests by military
    Current Affairs Mali's interim President and Prime Minister resigned, two days after they were arrested by the military. Soldiers led by interim Vice President AssimiGoita, had arrested President Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister MoctarOuane and taken them to a military base on Monday after a cabinet reshuffle in which the two officers lost their posts.

    Baba Cisse, an aide to AssimiGoita said that the president and prime minister have resigned and negotiations are ongoing for their liberation and the formation of a new government. The resignations came during a visit by a delegation from the Economic Community of West African State, ECOWAS, which is pressing to resolve the stand-off.

    Famous for Narasimhan-Seshadri theorem, he made pioneering contributions to differential & algebraic geometry.

    He played key role in development of Mathematics in India.

    He was the only Indian to be awarded with King Faisal International Prize for Science & First Chair of National Board for Higher Mathematics.

    Prof. M S Narasimhan contributions are in the areas of Algebraic Geometry, Differential Geometry, Representation Theory of Lie groups and Partial Differential Equations.

  • Tamil writer Ki Rajanarayanan passes away at 98 in Puducherry
    Noted Tamil writer Ki. Rajanarayanan died in Puducherry last night after a brief illness. He was 98. Fondly called as KiRa, he was admired as a folklorist and father of Karisal (black soil land) Literature.

    He was a recipient of Sahitya Academy award for his novel 'Gopalapurathu Makkal' in the year 1991.

    He also served as a member of Sahitya Akademi General Council and advisory board from 1998 to 2002.

    Lt. Governor of Puducherry, Tamilisai Soundararajan and Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy expressed condolences on his demise.

    Noted Environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna passed away in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.

    He was being treated for COVID-19 related complications at AIIMS hospital in the city.

    Governor Baby Rani Maurya and Chief Minister Teerath Singh Rawat have expressed grief on his death.

  • Elisabetta Belloni named as first woman to head Italy secret service
    Current Affairs A former ambassador has been named as the first woman to lead Italy's secret services. Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced Elisabetta Belloni as head of the Department of Information Security (DIS) on Wednesday.

    The department oversees the country's foreign and domestic intelligence services and reports directly to the Italian government. After serving as a diplomat in Vienna and Bratislava, Ms Belloni went on to lead the Italian foreign ministry's crisis unit from 2004 to 2008, the first time a woman had held the role.

  • Who has been re-appointed as PM of Nepal?
    In Nepal, President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has re-appointed KP Sharma Oli as Prime Minister as the opposition parties failed to put together a coalition government.

    The main contender to the PM post, Sher Bahadur Deuba who is the chief of the main opposition Nepali Congress, had informed his allies shortly ahead of the deadline that he would not be able to put together a coalition government with a majority in the House.

  • Former J&K Governor Jagmohan passes away at 94
    Current AffairsFormer Union Minister and Former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Jagmohan passed away in New Delhi today. He was 94. A civil servant, Jagmohan also served as Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and Goa. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha once and represented New Delhi in Lok Sabha thrice.

    In the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cabinet, he served as the Union Minister for Communications, Urban Development, Tourism and Culture. He was honoured with Padma Shri in 1971, Padma Bhushan in 1977 and Padma Vibhushan in 2016.

  • Aeronautical scientist Manas Bihari Verma passes away at 78
    Aeronautical scientist Manas Bihari Verma died of heart attack at his native place in Darbhanga district of Bihar last night.

    He was 78. Mr Verma played a vital role in the development of the Light Combat Aircraft - Tejas. He was close associate of former President APJ Abdul Kalam. In 2018, he was conferred Padma Sri.

    Bihar Governor Phagu Chouhan and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar have expressed grief over Verma's demise.

  • Bulgarian President Rumen Radev to hold snap parliamentary election on 11th July
    Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has announced that a snap parliamentary election will be held on 11th of July.

    Next week they will dissolve the Parliament and appoint an interim government. He linked the setting of the date for the new election with the appointment of a new central electoral commission that is expected to be finalised on 11th of this month.
