  • Justice Sanjay Yadav takes oath as Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court
    Current AffairsJustice Sanjay Yadav took oath as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court on Saturday. Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oath of office and secrecy to Justice Yadav at Raj Bhavan in Lucknow.

    Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Law Minister Brajesh Pathak, UP Chief Secretary RK Tiwari, Additional Chief Secretary to Governor Mahesh Kumar Gupta, family members of the Chief Justice, senior judges of the High Court, Registrar and other senior officials were present on the occasion of the swearing-in ceremony.

  • Naftali Bennett sworn-in as new Prime Minister of Israel
    Naftali Bennett was sworn-in as the new Prime Minister of Israel last night, after winning a confidence vote with the narrowest of margins, just 60 votes to 59. His victory ended the 12-year power of former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the country’s longest-serving leader.

    Former defence minister and high-tech millionaire, Bennett, a 49-year-old leader of the right-wing Yamina party, took oath of office after the Israeli parliament Knesset elected him as the 13th Prime Minister by a 60-59 vote in the 120-member house. One lawmaker abstained. The Knesset last night voted on the new coalition government led by Mr. Bennett. His government has 27 ministers, nine of them women.

    Mr Bennett will be prime minister until September 2023 as part of a power-sharing deal. He will then hand power over to Yair Lapid for a further two years.

  • Milkha Singh, legendary athlete popularly known as 'Flying Singh', dies at 91
    Milkha Singh, the legendary athlete, and Asian gold medalist, popularly known as 'Flying Singh', has died at the age of 91.

    Milkha Singh was born in 1929 and he was orphaned during the partition. Milkha Singh faced huge tragedy at a young age as his parents, two sisters and a brother were killed during the partition.

    After coming to India as a result of partition, Milkha Singh joined the Indian Army and his life changed forever after this.

    Noted environmentalist and educationist Prof. Radhamohan has breathed his last in a hospital in Odisha capital Bhubaneswar.
    Many dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi have condoled his sad demise.
    The Prime Minister has said, Prof Radhamohan was deeply passionate about agriculture, especially adopting sustainable and organic practices.

    The prime minister has said he was also respected for his knowledge on subjects relating to the economy and ecology.

    Renowned Bengali Film Maker Budhadeb Dasgupta passed away.
    He was also a celebrated poet, had, won several National Awards for his contribution to Bengali Cinema.
    He is most known for Films like; Bagh Bahadur, Tahader Katha, Charachar and Uttara.
    Five of his films have won the National Film Award for best Feature Film.
    As a Director, he had won National Film Award for best Director twice.
    Over the years he has also published several works of poetry.

    President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the demise of Buddhadeb Dasgupta.

  • Lieutenant General Manoj Pande, AVSM, VSM takes over Eastern Command
    Lieutenant General Manoj Pande, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, took over the reins of Eastern Command as its General Officer Commanding-in-Chief on 01 June 2021. Prior to this, he was Commander-in-Chief Andaman & Nicobar Command, the only Tri- services Operational Command in India from 01 Jun 2020 to 31 May 2021.
    The Army Commander conveys his warm greetings to the people and wishes them peace, prosperity, health & happiness in times ahead.

  • Lieutenant General Pradeep Chandran Nair, AVSM, YSM takes over as Director General Assam Rifles
    Lieutenant General Pradeep Chandran Nair, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Yudh Seva Medal (YSM) took over as the 21st Director General of the Assam Rifles (popularly known as Sentinels of the North-East) on 1st June 2021. He has rich experience of Assam Rifles and the North East, having earlier been an Inspector General and a Company Commander in Assam Rifles, besides having commanded Assam Rifles battalions as a Brigade Commander.
    In his last assignment at the Army Headquarters, he was the Director General Recruiting, responsible for recruiting officers and jawans in the Indian Army.
    He has been decorated with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal during his command as the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) in Nagaland, Yudh Seva Medal during his command of a Brigade in Manipur and the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card on three occasions.

    Lt Gen Ajai Singh assumed charge as the 16th Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (CINCAN) on June 01, 2021.
    The Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) is the only tri-service theatre command of the Armed Forces, based at Port Blair.
    Lt Gen Ajai Singh was an active part of flood relief efforts in Uttarakhand in 2013, Uttar Pradesh&Bihar in 2017 and Kerala in 2018 as well as the of Government’s Covid amelioration efforts.

    Dinesh K Tripathi, AVSM, NM, has assumed charge as Chief of Personnel on 01st June 2021. He is an alumnus of National Defence Academy Khadakwasla and was commissioned in the Navy on 01 Jul 1985.
    The Flag Officer is a specialist in Communication and Electronic Warfare and has served on frontline warships of the Navy as Signal Communication Officer and Electronic Warfare Officer and later as the Executive Officer and Principal Warfare Officer of Guided Destroyer INS Mumbai. He has commanded INS Vinash, INS Kirch and INS Trishul.

    Vice Admiral Ravneet Singh, AVSM, NM assumed charge as Deputy Chief of Naval Staff on 01 Jun 2021. Vice Admiral Ravneet Singh was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 1983 and specialized in Aviation. The Flag Officer is a Qualified Flying Instructor with Master Green instrument rating. He has flown HT-2, Kiran HJT 16, TS 11 Iskra, Hunter, Harrier Gr 3, Jet Provost, Chetak, Gazelle, Hawk and Mig 29 KUB aircraft during his illustrious career.
    Vice Admiral Ravneet Singh was awarded Commendation by the Chief of the Naval Staff in 2000 and has been decorated with the Nausena Medal (Gallantry) in 2004 and AtiVishishtSeva Medal in 2017.
    The Admiral relieves Vice Admiral MS Pawar, PVSM, AVSM, VSM who superannuated on 31st May 21.

  • Who has been appointed as Advisor to World Bank?
    Ranjitsinh Disale, the first Indian teacher to receive the Global Teacher Award has been appointed by the World Bank as an Advisor to the World Bank.
    The World Bank has appointed 12 advisors from world over and Mr. Disale is one of them representing India.
    The World Bank has recently launched the Global Coach Program, a new initiative focused on accelerating learning by helping countries improve in-service teacher professional development (TPD) programs and systems.

    This program forms part of the World Bank’s broader agenda to tackle the global learning crisis (WDR, 2018).
    Coach focuses on supporting countries to improve in-service TPD through a two-pronged approach. The Coach program focuses on helping countries transform their TPD programs and policies to ones that adhere to a set of four key principles that have been shown to be linked to improved teaching quality. Disale’s work through the Advisory Board will impact the work of the World Bank on the ground, currently supporting over 18 million teachers around the world. He will be an advisor to the World Bank till December 2024.
