    Current AffairsHero MotoCorp announced the appointment of Yerry Mina, the popular Colombian professional footballer, as its new Brand Ambassador.

    Mina is one of the promising young footballers and delivered impressive performances for the Colombian national football team during 2018 FIFA World Cup.

  • RBI Deputy Governor Viral Acharya resigns 6 months ahead of term end
    Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Deputy Governor Viral Acharya has quit six months before the scheduled end of his term to return to New York University Stern School of Business (NYU stern) in August as CV Starr Professor of Economics.

    Acharya had joined RBI on January 23, 2017. There was speculation that he will follow the former Governor's Urjit Patel footsteps and leave the central bank soon after the latter resigned on December 10, 2018.

    Currently, Acharya is in charge of the Financial Stability Unit, Monetary Policy Department, Department of Economic and Policy Research, Financial Markets Operation Department, Financial Market Regulation Department, among others at the RBI.

    Caputova scored a convincing victory against Smer-SD candidate Maros Sefcovic in March.

    Her allies from the Progressive Slovakia/Together party hope to use the momentum to unseat the ruling party in a 2020 general election.

  • Brazil development bank chief quits, fueling political crisis
    The head of Brazil's powerful state development bank quit on 16 June, 2019, a day after far-right President Jair Bolsonaro threatened to sack him, fueling a political crisis.

    Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) President Joaquim Levy, former finance minister in the left-wing government of ex-president Dilma Rousseff, submitted his resignation after Bolsonaro said he had a "price on his head."

    Mr. Levy's sudden departure follows a tumultuous week for a government less than six months into its term, in which Bolsonaro fired his third minister, retired general Carlos Alberto dos Santos Cruz, who had clashed with Bolsonaro's sons, and then sacked the head of Brazil's postal service.

  • Guatemala set to elect new President
    Guatemala is set to elect a new President after a tumultuous campaign.

    A total of 19 candidates are vying to succeed outgoing President Jimmy Morales. Former First lady and candidate for the centre-left Unity of Hope (UNE), Sandra Torres, is heading into the elections as a favourite, having built a clear opinion poll lead over second-placed Alejandro Giammattei of the conservative Vamos.

    The country's top anti-corruption campaigner, former attorney general Thelma Aldana, is not contesting the election.

    She was barred from running last month over allegations of irregularities dating from when she was a barnstorming public prosecutor.

    Aldana, who fled to the United States after receiving death threats, had said that her exclusion was orchestrated by those she put in prison and their allies.

    Around 40,000 police personnel have been put on , while the military has been mobilised to guard key buildings and jails.

    Guatemala's electorate of eight million is also voting in congressional and municipal elections.

    Inger is a Danish economist and environmentalist with over 30 years of experience in international development economics, environmental sustainability and policy-making. Now as ED of UNEP she brings to the role a passion for conservation and sustainable development.

  • Rabi N Mishra named RBI executive
    The RBI has promoted Rabi N Mishra as the central bank’s executive director (ED) after the position fell vacant on Rosemary Sebastian’s retirement.

    Rabi Mishra was principal chief general manager of the bank’s risk management department.

    As ED, Rabi Mishra would be looking after the newly-created specialized supervisory and regulatory cadre within the RBI.

  • 2 Jet Airways directors Ashok Chawla and Sharad Sharma resigned
    Jet Airways informed about the resignation of two independent directors Ashok Chawla and Sharad Sharma.

    Information that Jet's shares will be removed from daily trading of futures and options from 28 June, further accelerated the fall in its shares.

    The airline has a total liability of about Rs.25,000 crore, which includes dues of operational creditors.

  • Union minister Jagat Prakash Nadda appointed as the party's working president
    Union minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, a Senior BJP leader and former, was appointed as the party's working president during a parliamentary board meeting on 17 June.

    The announcement was made by former BJP president and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh after the party's highest decision-making body's meeting, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulate Nadda on his appointment.

  • Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed is appointed as Pakistans Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence
    Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed has been appointed as Pakistan’s Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (DG-ISI), a powerful spy agency. He assumed his office on 17th June 2019.The Pakistan Army also announced a number of changes to postings of its top generals.

    Lt. Gen. Hameed was appointed as Director-General of the ISI in place of Lieutenant General Asim Munir. Munir was transferred and appointed as Corps Commander Gujranwala. Lt. Gen.

    Munir was appointed as ISI chief in October 2018 after the retirement of his predecessor Lt. Gen. Naveed Mukhtar.

    Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed is a three-star rank general in the Pakistan Army. He is currently the 24th Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence (DG-ISI).

    On April 12, the Pakistan Army promoted then Major General Hameed to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him Adjutant General at the General Headquarters (GHQ) later that month.

    He was previously serving as the head of the Counter Intelligence wing in the ISI.

  • New Chief Justice RS Chauhan and V Ramasubramanium named for Telangana, Himachal High Courts
    The government has cleared the appointments of Justice RS Chauhan as Chief Justice of the Telangana high court and Justice V Ramasubramanium as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh high court.

    On June 7, the government had notified the appointment of Justice Ravi Shanker Jha as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh high court.

  • Shefali Juneja appointed as India's representative in the Council of ICAO
    Senior bureaucrat Shefali Juneja was appointed as India's representative in the Council of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), a UN body.

    She has been appointed to the post of Representative of India in the ICAO, Montreal, Canada, for a period of three years.

    She will replace senior IAS officer Alok Shekhar who was named for the post in October 2015.

  • 30 judges in NCLT courts appointed
    The ministry of corporate affairs (MCA) has appointed 30 new judges to the various benches of the national company law tribunal (NCLT) across the country.

    7 new judges were appointed in Mumbai while 5 new judges were appointed in New Delhi.

    The National Company Law Tribunal is a quasi-judicial body in India that adjudicates issues relating to Indian companies.

  • Abhinav Bindra appointed to sort AAI Mess
    Abhinav Bindra was appointed as an independent person by the World Archery to sort out the ongoing mess in the national federation (AAI).

    The world body de-listed the Archery Association of India for violating the constitution byunanimously electing two parallel bodies in Chandigarh and New Delhi.

    He will be part of the selection panel, also consisting of IOA secretary general Rajeev Mehta.

  • Thawarchand Gehlot appointed leader of Rajya Sabha
    Current AffairsUnion Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thawarchand Gehlot has been appointed as the leader of Rajya Sabha.

    He will replace senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley who opted out of the government citing health reasons. Mr Gehlot is a Rajya Sabha member representing Madhya Pradesh.

    China has appointed veteran diplomat Sun Weidong as its new envoy to India. Mr Sun, who also served as the ambassador to Pakistan, is currently the Director General of the Policy and Planning Department of the Foreign Ministry.

    He will succeed Luo Zhaohui, who has been appointed as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs.

  • Mrutyunjay Mohapatra appointed IMD chief
    Renowned scientist and cyclone warning specialist Mrutyunjay Mohapatra was appointed as the chief of India Meteorological Department (IMD) on 4 June 2019.

    Mr Mohapatra leads the Cyclone Warning Division of the IMD.

    The IMD is responsible for weather and climate-related forecasts in the country.

    It is also mandated to issue warning to people about severe weather phenomenon like cyclones.

  • Yes Bank's independent director Mukesh Sabharwal has stepped down from the banks board
    Yes Bank's independent director Mukesh Sabharwal has stepped down from the lender's board of directors to devote his time to academic pursuits.

    Sabharwal has worked with the private lender for over seven years.

    The resignation comes a day after non-executive director Ajai Kumar quit the lender's board due to personal reasons.

  • First woman fighter pilot to fly Hawk jet
    Current AffairsFlight Lt Mohana Singh has become the first woman fighter pilot to fly by day on a Hawk advanced jet aircraft.

    Her training involved flying both air-to-air combat and air-to-ground missions.

    She and two other women officers, Bhawana Kanth and Avani Chaturvedi, joined the fighter stream in June 2016.

    Flight Lt Bhawana Kanth became the first daytime woman fighter pilot to fly a MiG-21 Bison.

    Nayib Bukele is elected as the new president of El Salvador.

    The 37 -year-old former mayor of San Salvador, who won more votes than all other candidates in the February presidential election, brought an end to a two-party system that has held sway over the country for three decades.

    He pledged to cure the Central American country that he described as a "sick child" following years of violence and migration that has strained relations with the United States.

  • Indian tycoon Ali gets first Gold Card in UAE
    The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship of the United Arab Emirates announced that it had issued its first gold residence card to Indian business leader Yusuff Ali MA, the chairman of LuLu Group International.

    Yusuff Ali was awarded the query gold card here by Brigadier Saeed Salem Al Shamsi, the executive director of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs.

  • VP Sivakolundhu elected as Puducherry Assembly Speaker
    Deputy Speaker VP Sivakolundhu was elected as the new Speaker of the Puducherry Assembly.

    The post fell vacant after Congress' V Vaithilingam stepped down on March 21 to contest the Lok Sabha election from the lone Union Territory seat of Puducherry, which he won with a margin of 1,96,802 votes against his nearest rival K Narayanasamy of All India NR Congress.

    The Congress leader, Sivakolundhu, was the sole contender for the Speaker's post.

  • Forbes magazine named Rihanna as the worlds richest female musician
    Forbes magazine has named Rihanna as the world’s richest female musician. Rihanna's Fenty Beauty brand business endeavors have officially made her the richest female musician in the world. Her worth is estimated at $600m (£472m) which includes revenues made from her fashion and beauty lines in addition to those from her music career.

    Forbes reported that the French luxury brand LVMH backs Rihanna’s lucrative cosmetics company, Fenty Beauty. Fenty beauty was launched in 2017. It is worth more than £3bn, from which Rihanna has earned $570m.

    In 2012, Rihanna founded the Clara Lionel Foundation. The trust supports health and education efforts in impoverished communities around the world. Harvard University, in February 2017, she was named humanitarian of the year.

  • Wipro founder Premji to retire next month (July, 2019)
    IT major Wipro Ltd announced that its founder Azim H Premji would retire as executive chairman and MD of the company by the end of July.

    Azim Premji is a recipient of Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awards.

    He's going to hand over reins of the firm to his son Rishad.

    Wipro board has also announced that CEO and executive director Abidali Z. Neemuchwala will be re-designated as CEO and MD.

  • Justice Dhirubhai Naranbhai Patel Takes Oath As New CJI Of Delhi High Court
    Justice Dhirubhai Naranbhai Patel sworn in as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.

    Lt Governor Anil Baijal administered the oath of office to Justice Patel at a function held at Raj Niwas.

    Earlier, Justice Patel was posted at the Jharkhand High Court.

    Supreme Court Collegium recommended his name for the appointment as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.

    She is appointed to promote the ancient system of physical and mental practices to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga so that people follow it on a daily basis.

    She is practicing yoga for 17 years.

    The main objective of this initiative is to increase awareness about the benefits of yoga and encourage people to inculcate a healthy lifestyle.

    The Panaji-based expert has been practicing yoga since the last 17 years and has been instrumental in inspiring many people to take up the ancient practice that involves a range of postures (asanas).

  • Anita Bhatia appointed as Deputy Executive Director for UN Women
    Anita Bhatia has been appointed as the Assistant Secretary-General for resource management, sustainability and partnerships and Deputy Executive Director of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).

    She is a veteran of strategic partnerships, resource mobilization, and management.

  • Ajit Doval reappointed National Security Advisor with Cabinet rank
    The government reappointed retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Ajit Doval as National Security Adviser, according him a Cabinet rank.

    He becomes the first NSA to get Cabinet status in the table of precedence.

    In his previous stint as an NSA, he had the stature of a Minister of State (MoS).

    According to one official, the decision was taken since Mr. Doval leads strategic dialogues with many countries and a Cabinet rank will facilitate his interactions with the most senior officials.

    “A case in point is China, where there has been a mismatch between him and the Special Representative for boundary talks, who is normally a State councillor of Cabinet rank. China had raised discomfort about the mismatch”.

  • Arjun Munda appoints as Minister of Tribal Affairs
    Shri Arjun Munda assumed charge as the Union Minister of Tribal Affairs.

    He served as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand form 2003-2006. He was the leader of opposition in Jharkhand from 2006-2008. He was elected to 15th Lok Sabha in 2009 but resigned on 26 February 2011.

    Smt. Renuka Singh, the new Minister of State for Tribal Affairs also assumed charge.
