Union Territory of Ladakh Achieves Full Functional Literacy Under ULLAS
  • According to the Union Ministry of Education, the Union Territory of Ladakh has achieved full functional literacy under the ULLAS-Nav Bharat SaakshartaKaryakram. Ladakh now boasts over 97 percent literacy. Lieutenant Governor Dr. B.D Mishra shared this milestone on June 25, 2024, at a function in Sindhu Sanskritik Kendra (SSK), Leh.
  • A centrally sponsored scheme implemented from 2022-23 to 2026-27, ULLAS (Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society) aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focusing on adult education and lifelong learning.
  • The total outlay is Rs.1037.90 crore, with the Government of India contributing Rs.700 crore and the states contributing Rs.337.90 crore.
  • Targets non-literates aged 15 years and above in all States/UTs. The goal is to reach five crore learners, or one crore learners per year.
