JNU Vice Chancellor Jagadesh Kumar appointed as Chairman of UGC

• Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University Jagadesh Kumar has been appointed as the Chairman of University Grants Commission UGC.
• Mr. Kumar has been appointed for a period of five years from the date of his assumption of charge of the post or until he attains the age of 65.
• Kumar is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. He was a professor at IIT Delhi before he was appointed as the vice-chancellor in 2016. Days before the end of his JNU term in January 2021, the education ministry granted him an extension “until further orders”.
