  • The United States has said, there is no indication that Russia has moved any nuclear weapons yet.
  • The action would not violate nuclear non-proliferation commitments. Russia has ten aircraft stationed in Belarus that are capable of transporting tactical nuclear weapons. The Russian President stressed that Moscow would not be ceding authority to Belarus and compared his plans to the United States stationing its weapons in Europe. The United States has already stationed nuclear weapons on the territory of European allies.
  • Meanwhile, NATO has said, it is vigilant and closely monitoring the situation. A NATO spokesperson said on Sunday that they have not seen any changes in Russia’s nuclear posture that would lead them to adjust their own.
  • EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell cautioned Belarus against hosting Russian nuclear weapons on its territory, warning the move may trigger additional sanctions.
  • On the other hand, Ukraine has called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council over Russia’s announcement.
