PM Modi honoured with Greece’s Grand Cross of the Order of Honour

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the Grand Cross of the Order of Honour by Greek President Katerina N. Sakellaropoulou in Athens. The award is the highest civilian honour that can be bestowed by Greece to a foreign head of government. The citation for the award said that it was being given to PM Modi “in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the promotion of bilateral relations between Greece and India”.
- It also praised his “commitment to strengthening the ties between the two countries in the political, economic, cultural and people-to-people spheres”. PM Modi is the first Indian prime minister to be conferred with the Grand Cross of the Order of Honour. He is also the first foreign head of government to be awarded the honour since 2017.
- The award is a significant recognition of PM Modi’s efforts to strengthen ties between India and Greece. The two countries have a long history of friendship and cooperation, and the award is a testament to the growing importance of this relationship.
