The condition of our country has become worse in the hunger index. According to the Global Hunger Index 2022, India has been ranked 107 out of 121 countries. Our neighboring countries Sri Lanka (64), Nepal (81), Bangladesh (84) and Pakistan (99) are ahead of India.

China, Turkey, Kuwait are in better position in the GHI index 2022. And among South Asian countries, only Afghanistan (109th rank) is below India. This report has declared the alarm bells of hunger in India.
In our country, the rate of child wasting is 19.3 percent and it is the worst problem in the world. 2014 (15.1 percent), worse than 2000 (17.15 percent). Malnutrition is severe in India.

► The Global Hunger Index (GHI) is considered as a tool to comprehensively measure and identify hunger at global, regional and national levels.
► The Irish aid agency 'Concern World Wide' and the German organization 'Welt Hunger Life' have prepared this report jointly.
► Score is given in GHI based on four factors namely malnutrition, child growth, child wasting and child mortality.
► Based on these scores, countries are divided into categories of low, moderate, severe, concern, and extreme concern.
► India ranks among the worst affected countries with a score of 29.1 percent.
► Child wasting rate (underweight and height for age) in India is one of the worst in the world at 19.3 percent.
► In 2021, India was ranked 101 in the list of 116 countries. Now it has fallen to the 107th rank in the list of 121 countries.
► India's GHI score is also gradually declining. The score fell from 38.8 in 2000 to 28.2-29.1 between 2014-2022.
