BCCI, UN Environment sign agreement to promote ‘green' Cricket in India
The BCCI and UN Environment on 27th May signed an agreement to promote ‘green' Cricket in India. BCCI acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary and Erik Solheim, Executive Director of UN Environment, signed a letter of intent at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai ahead of the IPL final between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The BCCI in a statement that the partnership aims to spread greater awareness about key environmental challenges facing the country, and highlight alternate and more sustainable solutions. The BCCI will endeavor to reduce its environmental impact by greening operations and engaging cricketers and fans in green initiatives.

The partnership will also focus on phasing out single-use plastic across stadiums in the country.

Even during the course of IPL, a film with messages from captains of various franchises was created and aired in stadiums highlighting hazards of plastic pollution.
Government approves green licence plates for e-vehicles: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari
To promote electric vehicles in the country, the government has approved green licence plates bearing numbers in white fonts for private e-vehicles and yellow for taxis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on 9th May. A notification in this regard will be out in a week’s time, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, who has been advocating electric mobility promotion
Legal instruments, partnerships needed for conserving wildlife corridors: World Wildlife Fund (WWF)
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has said, legal instruments and partnerships are needed to build a stronger framework for conserving and securing wildlife corridosrs and landscapes.

A three-day workshop held by WWF concluded in Delhi. Experts from wildlife and environment organisations and officials from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change took part in the workshop.

In a statement, the global wildlife body said, the discussions were held on the importance and challenges of maintaining and securing wildlife landscapes in an increasingly crowded space. They assessed and identified locations of corridors in wildlife landscapes.

On the final day of the workshop, participants detailed out the key elements of a corridor conservation policy with discussions around key actions and legal instruments that need to be in place to help build a stronger framework for corridors.
Centre told the Supreme Court that BS-VI fuel will be made available by 1st April 2019
The Centre on 1st May told the Supreme Court that BS-VI fuel will be made available by 1st April next year (2019) in 17 out of 23 districts in the National Capital Region.

The government told a bench comprising Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta that BS-VI fuel will also be made available in Agra in Uttar Pradesh on the same date.

Additional Solicitor General A N S Nadkarni, representing the government, told the bench that it would not be possible to change the pricing structure of diesel since the maximum basic excise duty was already being levied on the fuel.

The bench was hearing matters arising out of a 1985 PIL by an environmentalist who had raised the issue of air pollution in Delhi- NCR.
