RBI imposes Rs 3.06 Crore penalty on Amazon Pay (India)
- Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of three crore six lakh sixty six thousand rupees on Amazon Pay (India) Private Limited for non-compliance of certain directions related to Prepaid Payment Instruments and Know Your Customer.
- Accordingly, a notice was issued and decision to impose the penalty was taken after considering the entity’s response. In a press release, RBI said that the action is based on deficiencies in regulatory compliance and is not intended to pronounce upon the validity of any transaction or agreement entered into by the entity with its customers.

United States hosts war planning exercises in Germany for Ukraine
- The United States is hosting war planning exercises in Germany for Ukrainian military officers to help them think through upcoming battlefield decisions ahead of the next phase of the year-old conflict with Russia.
- The multi-day exercises have been carried out at a war-gaming facility at a U.S. Army base in Wiesbaden, Germany. The drills come on the heels of the one-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
- US would stand with Ukraine for "as long as it takes." Earlier, United States and its allies have committed billions of dollars of military aid to Ukraine, including Bradley fighting vehicles, tanks and advanced air defenses.

CE-20 cryogenic engine test completed
- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully completed the flight acceptance hot test for the CE-20 cryogenic engine, which will power the LVM3 launch vehicle’s Cryogenic Upper Stage for the upcoming Chandrayaan-3 mission. The test was carried out at the ISRO Propulsion Complex in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu, and all the propulsion parameters during the test were found to be satisfactory.
- The cryogenic rocket engine uses cryogenic rocket fuel and an oxidiser. Cryogenic means the process or product requires very low temperatures. It will need deep freezing points to operate. The Ce-20 cryogenic engine was produced by HAL and designed by ISRO. It is a liquid-fuel engine.

World Wildlife Day 2023: Celebrating 'Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation'
- Our planet is home to a wide array of wild flora and fauna, which play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance and providing us with food, medicine and more. World Wildlife Day is marked annually on March 3 to celebrate the unique wild species and create awareness to help conserve them.
- The 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) designated March 3 as World Wildlife Day on December 20, 2013, with an aim to raise awareness about the conservation of the world's wild flora and fauna. It was on March 3 when the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) took place in 1973. The convention helps ensure that international trade does not pose any threat to endangered species of plants and animals. This year, the day marks the 50th anniversary of the convention.
- The idea to celebrate March 3 as World Wildlife Day was previously proposed at the 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CITES (CoP16) in Bangkok in March 2013. The CITES Secretariat has been tasked with facilitating the implantation of World Wildlife Day.
- The theme for this year's World Wildlife Day is 'Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation'. It has been chosen to highlight the need 'to work across governments, civil society, and the private sector to turn commitment into action'.

Hockey India appoints South African Craig Fulton as new Chief Coach of Indian men's hockey team
- Hockey India has appointed South African Craig Fulton as new chief coach of the Indian men's hockey team. Craig Fulton will succeed Graham Reid who resigned after India’s poor outing at the World Cup in January 2023.
- Craig Fulton has tremendous experience in coaching and his work ethic induces confidence in raising the team's performance in world hockey. Craig Fulton has nearly 25 years of coaching experience and earned 195 caps over a span of 10 years for South Africa. He also played Atlanta and Athens Olympic Games.
First-ever Women's Premier League to begin in Navi Mumbai
- History will be made today when the five-team Women's Premier League (WPL 2023) begins in Navi Mumbai.
- After years of wait and planning, the Board of Control for Cricket in India, BCCI, has finally been able to organise the standalone T20 franchise-based cricket league for women, on the lines of the popular Indian Premier League.
- The five teams taking part in the inaugural edition of WPL are Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC), UP Warriorz (UPW) and Gujarat Giants (GG). India captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been named as MI captain while opener Smriti Mandhana will lead RCB's women's team. Australia's successful skipper Meg Lanning will be at the helm of Delhi Capitals, while Beth Mooney has been named as captain for Gujarat Giants. Australian wicketkeeper and batter Alyssa Healy is leading UP Warriorz in WPL 2023.

GSMA Government Leadership Award 2023
- India received the GSMA Government Leadership Award 2023 at the GSMA’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023. The MWC was organized in Barcelona, Spain. The GSMA is an association that brings together mobile operators and key stakeholders in the global mobile industry. It represents more than 750 mobile operators and 400 companies. Each year GSMA recognises one country.
- The award recognized the Indian Government’s efforts in the development of the telecom sector. It also recognizes the regulatory mechanism policies targeting mobile connectivity. India is currently on the path of achieving the goal of national-level coverage of 5G network by the end of 2023. Currently, 387 districts across India have access to 5G services.

Global Investors Summit: CM Jagan says Andhra Pradesh received proposals worth Rs 13 lakh crore
- Andhra Pradesh chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced the receipt of 340 proposals for industrial investments to the tune of Rs 13 lakh crore in the state, during the Andhra Pradesh Global Investor Summit 2023 being held in Visakhapatnam.
- “As of today, 92 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with 11 lakh crores will be executed , remaining will be executed tomorrow."
- The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and the JSW Group signed the biggest deals with the AP government which harvested investments worth Rs 11.87 lakh crore during the Global Investors Summit here on Friday. On the government side, the energy department was the biggest gainer.
- NTPC signed three MoUs with an investment of Rs 2.35 lakh crore which would generate employment for 77,000 people. The JSW Group singed six MoUs, the largest with an investment of Rs 50,632 crore that could create employment for 9,500 people.
- ABC limited signed a MoU with investment of Rs 1.2 lakh crore with employment potential for 7,000 people. Aurobindo Group signed five MoUs with an investment of Rs 10,365 crore and the ability to create employment for 5,250 people.
- The Adani Green Energy’s two MoUs were worth Rs 21,820 crore and carried with it a job potential for 14,000 people. Aditya Birla Group signed two MoUs worth Rs 9,300 crore and 2,850 jobs. Jindal Steel signed a MoU with an investment of Rs 7,500 crore to generate employment for 2,500 people.
- The energy department attracted 35 investment proposals worth Rs 8.25 lakh crore with employment potential of 1.33 lakh people; industries and commerce 41 proposals worth Rs 3.2 lakh crore to generate employment for 1.79 lakh people.
- The IT and ITES department got six proposals worth Rs 32,944 crore which employment generation for 64,815 people and tourism department got 10 proposals worth Rs 8,719 crore with employment for 13,400 people.
- The summit had 200 stalls with 30 showcasing the advantages of investing in AP and 13 dealing with crucial sectors. More than 8,000 dignitaries and investors from all over India and from 40 other countries including China and the US are participating in the GIS.
Green initiatives in Andhra Pradesh attract the attention of Bill Gates
- Ahead of the Global Investors Summit (GIS) in Visakhapatnam, the State of Andhra Pradesh and its green projects are on Bill Gates’ radar.
- Microsoft Corporation co-founder and co-chair of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Bill Gates took special interest to learn about the green initiatives in Andhra Pradesh, especially the green energy pumped storage project that was executed Greenko Group in Kurnool.
- At the ongoing G20 summit venue in New Delhi, Mr. Gates took a brief from Greenko Founder, CEO and managing director Anil Chalamalasetty.
Governor summons AP’s Budget Session from March 14
- Andhra Pradesh Governor Justice S. Abdul Nazeer issued a notification on Friday summoning the Budget Session of the State Legislative Assembly as well as the State Legislative Council on March 14.
- The joint session of the two houses will start on the day at 10 a.m. in the Assembly Hall at Velagapudi in Amaravati.
- In this regard, AP Government has issued a notification stating that in the exercise of powers conferred by Clause (1) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India, S. Abdul Nazeer, Governor of Andhra Pradesh, has summoned the 15th Session of AP Legislative Assembly and 42nd Session of the AP Legislative Council on Tuesday, March 14, at 10:00 a.m. in the Assembly Hall.
- Coinciding with the summoning of the budget session, AP chief secretary Dr K.S. Jawahar Reddy circulated a note on the AP Council of Ministers meeting on March 14 at 12:00 noon.
- The note instructed special chief secretaries / principal secretaries/secretaries to government/departments of the secretariat to send proposals in the prescribed format to General Administration Department by 4:00 p.m. on March 10, so that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy can be briefed about the various topics ahead of the cabinet meeting.
