Prime Minister Narendra Modi Elected As Leader Of Lok Sabha, BJP And NDA Parliamentary Party Unanimously

  • NDA Parliamentary Party has unanimously elected Narendra Modi as its leader. During the NDA Parliamentary party meeting in New Delhi, Senior BJP Leader and Union Minister Rajnath Singh moved a proposal to elect Mr Modi as NDA leader and it was supported by the leaders of all NDA constituents.
  • Mr. Modi has also been elected as the leader of BJP in Lok Sabha, and BJP parliamentary party. Proposing the name of Mr Modi, Rajnath Singh said that he is the most suitable person for this post.

India’s First Biosphere in a Tiger Reserve

  • India’s first biosphere in a tiger reserve, called the Rajaji Raghati Biosphere (RRB) within the Rajaji National Park in Uttarakhand was created.
  • In 1983 the intent notification of Rajaji National Park was issued after merging the three wildlife sanctuaries of Uttarakhand –Rajaji, Motichur and Chilla. It was named after the famous freedom fighter C. Rajgopalachari popularly known as “Rajaji”.
  • Rajaji National Park is spread over an area of 820.42 sq km. Subsequently in 2015, 255.63 sq km area of adjacent reserve forest was added to the area of Rajaji Naitonal Park as buffer zone and whole area of 1075 sq km was declared as Rajaji Tiger Reserve under the provision of Wild Life Protection Act 1972.
  • The tiger reserve provides fresh & clear air and serve as the lungs of the three major ciites of Uttarakhand – Capital city Dehradun, Sacred city Haridwar and Yoga City Rishikesh.

Kuwait’s Emir names Sheikh Sabah as new crown prince

  • Sheikh Meshal recently dissolved parliament for as many as four years amid the widespread political dysfunction that’s gripped Kuwait. Kuwait Emir named the small nation’s new crown prince, nearly six months after he took the throne. Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al Sabah will become next in line to the throne.
  • Kuwait remains a reliable supplier of crude oil & LPG to India, meeting our crucial energy needs. During FY 2023-24, Kuwait was the 6th largest crude supplier to India and it met about 3% of India’s total energy needs.

India, Qatar Hold First Meeting Of Joint Task Force On Investment In New Delhi

  • In line with the vision of strengthening investment cooperation between India and Qatar, the first meeting of the Joint Task Force on Investment (JTFI) between the two nations was convened on Thursday (6th June 2024) in New Delhi.
  •  The Joint Task Force was co-chaired by Department of Economic Affairs, Secretary, Ajay Seth and the Undersecretary of Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of Qatar Mohamed bin Hassen Al-Malki.
  • In the spirit of fostering mutual growth and prosperity, the Joint Task Force on investment has reaffirmed the commitment of both the nations to strengthen bilateral relations and to leverage the collective potential for accelerated growth, investment opportunities and synergistic collaboration across diverse sectors ranging from infrastructure, energy to technology and innovation. The JTFI has underscored the significance of the robust economic relationship between India and Qatar rooted in shared values common objectives and a shared vision for inclusive development.

RBI Monetary Policy June 2024, Repo Rate Unchanged at 6.5%

  • RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das announced that the Monetary Policy Committee has chosen to maintain the policy repo rate at 6.5%, with a 4:2 majority decision. Consequently, the standing deposit facility (SDF) rate remains unchanged at 6.25%, while both the marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the bank rate stand firm at 6.75%.

C-DOT Wins UN WSIS Award for Disaster Resilience Technology

  • The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), established on August 24, 1984, by the Government of India, is a premier telecom research and development centre. Its mission is to revolutionize the telecom sector in India by developing cutting-edge technologies and products tailored to Indian conditions.
  • The WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event is organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

ENVIRONMENT
Two bird Sanctuaries of Bihar added to Ramsar List

  • India has added two bird sanctuaries from Bihar, Nagi and Nakti – to the ‘Ramsar Sites’ list, taking the tally to 82. The newest ‘Wetlands of International Importance’, both man-made reservoirs situated in the Jhajha forest range of Jamui District in Bihar, were added to Ramsar Sites as part of World Environment Day‌, observed annually on June 5.
  • The Nakti Bird Sanctuary was developed primarily for irrigation through the construction of Nakti Dam. Since the dam’s construction, the wetland and its surrounding area have provided habitat for over 150 species of birds, mammals, fish, aquatic plants, reptiles and amphibians. They include globally threatened species, including the endangered Indian elephant (Elephas maximus indicus) and a vulnerable native catfish (Wallago attu).
  • A Ramsar site is a wetland site designated to be of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, also known as The Convention on Wetlands, an international environmental treaty signed on 2 February 1971 in Ramsar, Iran, under the auspices of UNESCO.
