NITI Aayog, UN sign GoI-UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023-27

  • NITI Aayog and the United Nations in India signed the Government of India-United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023-2027 in New Delhi on Friday. The GoI-UNSDCF was signed by CEO NITI Aayog B V R Subrahmanyam and UN Resident Coordinator India Shombi Sharp in the presence of the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog Suman Bery, senior representatives from NITI Aayog, central ministries and heads of UN agencies in India.
  • GoI-UNSDCF 2023-2027 represents the UN development system’s collective offer to the Government of India, in line with the national vision for development, for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, promoting gender equality, youth empowerment and human rights.
  • The GoI-UNSDCF, through its agreed partnerships, outcomes and outputs will contribute towards achievement of national development priorities.

In "Abundance in Millets" song, creativity has blended with an important cause of food security and removing hunger: PM

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that there is abundance of health and well-being in Shree Ann or millets.
  •  Grammy Award-winning Indian-American singer Falu has come out with the song inspired by the Prime Minister's initiative to get UN declare 2023 as the International Year of Millets.The Prime Minister tweeted, it is an excellent effort by Falu. He said, through this song, creativity has blended with an important cause of food security and removing hunger.

Vice President JagdeepDhankhar presents National Water Awards in New Delhi; Madhya Pradesh tops in Best State category

  • Vice President JagdeepDhankhar conferred the fourth National Water Awards in New Delhi today, June 17. The Jal Shakti Ministry had announced a total of 41 winners, covering 11 categories, including joint winners, for the National Water Awards, 2022.
  • Madhya Pradesh was awarded the first prize in the best State category. In the best district category, the award was given to the Ganjam District of Odisha. The best Village Panchayat award was presented to Jagannadhapuram Village Panchayat, BhadradriKothagudem district of Telangana. Each award winner was conferred with a citation and a trophy as well as cash prizes. 
  • As part of the ongoing nationwide drive to realise the Government's vision of a water-prosperous India, the award focuses on encouraging the good work and efforts made by various individuals and organisations. It seeks to create awareness among people about the importance of water and motivate them to adopt best water use practices.
  • Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat informed that around  56 thousand AmritSarovars have been constructed and almost the same number of AmritSarovars are under construction in the country.

UNGA President Korosi says, he looks forward to Yoga celebrations with PM Modi at UN Headquaters

  • United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President CsabaKorosi has said that he is looking forward to participate in the International Day of Yoga celebrations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the UN Headquarters in New York on June 21.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a series of tweets, urged people to make Yoga a part of their lives and boost their wellness as well as peace. He also shared a set of videos depicting the various Asanas of Yoga. The Prime Minister said Yoga brings the world together towards furthering good health and wellness.

Civil Aviation sector records 36% growth during January to May, 2023

  • The Civil Aviation sector in the country has witnessed an impressive growth. Based on the traffic data provided by different domestic airlines, the passenger count reached a milestone of over 636 lakh during January to May 2023, reflecting an annual growth rate of over 36 per cent compared to corresponding period of last year.
  • In the month of May last year, passenger count was over 114 lakh, which in May this year rose to over 132 lakh, registering a Month-on-Month growth of 15.24 per cent.
  • According to Ministry of Civil Aviation, this growth is a testament to the collective efforts of airlines, airports, and the Ministry in fostering a safe, efficient, and customer-centric aviation ecosystem. The notable increase in the volume of passengers demonstrates the strength and durability of India's aviation sector, showcasing the continuous endeavours to improve connectivity and offer convenient travel choices to citizens.
  • The overall passenger number in May this year increased by 3.26 lakhs as compared to April this year.
  • Also, the number of passenger-related complaints decreased in May 2023 compared to May 2019.

First Women's Kabaddi League Inaugurated in Dubai, Showcasing India's Talented Athletes

  • Following the success of the Men's Pro Kabaddi League, it is now the turn of female athletes to shine on the kabaddi mat. The inaugural edition of India's first-ever Women's Kabaddi League (WKL) commenced with great fanfare in Dubai on June 16.
  • This historic event marks the first time that women kabaddi players from across India have been given the opportunity to exhibit their skills and prowess on a global stage. The league consists of eight teams, featuring a total of 96 players, each representing Indian states..
  • The victorious team will be awarded a prize of approximately half a million dirhams (equivalent to 1 crore INR)..
  • The Women's Kabaddi League is set to span over a period of 12 days, from June 16 to June 27, at the Shabab Al Ahli Sports Club in Dubai. The league's overarching objective is to enhance the prominence of kabaddi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and empower female athletes from India. It provides a robust platform for these exceptional talents to exhibit their prowess, ultimately inspiring a new generation of kabaddi enthusiasts.
