Courses
Diploma in Fashion Designing is of one year duration, while Bachelor degree with three / four years and Master's degree with a duration of two years are available.

Diploma Courses: Diploma in Fashion Design, Diploma in Fashion Communication.

Bachelor Courses: Bachelor of Design (Fashion Design), B.Sc Fashion Design, Bachelor of Design (Fashion Communication), Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B. F. Tech).

Postgraduate Courses: Master of Design, Master of Fashion Technology, Master of Fashion Management.

Eligibility:
Intermediate or 10+2 passed are eligible for admission in Bachelor Degree and graduates in Fashion Designing for Masters' programmes.

Top institutes
In India, many institutes are popular for fashion design, technology courses. They are the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), the National Institute of Design (NID), the Indian Institute of Craft and Design, and the Footwear Design and Development Institute.

Admission Procedure
The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) conducts a written test at the national level for admissions. Those who pass will have Situation Test / Group Discussion / Personal Interview Rounds. Due to Covid-19, admissions are being finalized by conducting online interviews based on the marks obtained in this year's entrance examination. Admissions to the National Institute of Design are through the Design Aptitude Test (DAT). DAT is conducted as prelims and mains. In addition to these, one can get admissions in fashion design courses by writing CEED (Common Entrance Exam for Design)and UCEED Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design).

Job profiles
Candidates who have completed Fashion Design courses can get jobs like Fashion Designer, Fashion Illustrator, Fashion Stylist, Fashion Coordinator, Fashion Merchandiser.

Fashion Designer
Fashion designers study trends and sketch the initial clothing or accessory design. They attend trade shows or visit manufacturers to select fabrics and trims. Designers conduct fittings and adjustments on prototypes of their designs, and the end product is then marketed to clothing retailers.

Fashion Illustrator
Fashion illustrators focus on art and creating fashion designs for clients. In many cases, buyers and stylists look at things created by illustrators when choosing what to make. This requires the creation of artistic assets that are accurate, represent the clothing well, and are visually appealing to buyers.

Fashion Stylist
Fashion stylists work for individuals, fashion houses and clothing brands. Their main responsibilities include providing fashion advice; choosing and co-ordinating outfits for models in photo shoots or actors in television and film; and choosing props and accessories and preparing them for shoots.

Fashion Coordinator
Fashion coordinators keep up with fashion trends to create a congruent feeling throughout a company, such as a department store or magazine. Sometimes called fashion directors, their duties involve conducting fashion research, studying consumer buying trends and predicting what customers will buy in the future.

Fashion Merchandiser
Visual merchandisers create window and in-store displays of goods for retail shops and department stores. The work involves researching to get an understanding of what is needed, and coming up with design ideas. Visual merchandisers also source elements such as lighting, props and accessories.Fashion merchandisers perform strategic analysis, marketing, management, and distribution functions. Although fashion merchandisers are not designers, they are close to designers

Some of the top companies are Lifestyle, Pantaloon, Allen Solly, Arvind Store, Adidas, Raymond, Spyker, Swarovski (Jewelry design), BATA, ,ITC Wills Lifestyle, Liberty Shoes Ltd., Reid and Taylor, , United Colors of Benetton, Marx and Spencer, Shoppers Stop, Woodland, GAP, Indian Terrain, Reliance Footwear, Monte Carlo etc.

Placements are sure
Awareness in fashion-related courses is on the rise among the youth. About 75% of students who complete courses at NIFT receive on-campus placements. Another 20 percent are going into the entrepreneur field. The fashion industry should be seen as design, technology and management in terms of education and employment opportunities. There are good opportunities in merchandising related to fashion management. NIFT students are gaining top positions in companies like BATA, Arvind Stores, Pantaloons, Adidas etc. Companies are offering packages of Rs. 4 lakh to Rs. 18 lakh to students.
