Social Sciences in IITs
The IITians are making wonders all around the world in many fields. In recent times, apart from engineering courses, the humanities and social sciences courses, are on the rise. Hence, IITs are offering these courses.
IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Delhi, will launch two new courses in summer- 2020. They are M. Sc Economy and M.Sc Cognitive Science courses which are offered by the Humanities and Social Science Departments. The intake for each course is 25.
In 2005, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Kanpur launched five year integrated (bachelor's and masters') courses in economics. In 2011, the course was changed to four years Bachelor, one year Masters.
In 2006, IIT Madras introduced a five-year integrated program in English Studies and Development Studies. In 2009, IIT Guwahati started its Masters program in Development Studies.
In 2017, IIT Bombay started a four-year Bachelor's course in Economics. This course is designed so as to get complete command and grip over Mathematics and Statistics.
Students enrolled in the Integrated MA course at IIT-Madras will study all subjects for the first two years. In the third year, students choose their favorite, interesting subject. It gives students the opportunity to learn about their interests. In addition, the course provides students with insights into the principles of economics, social and political thought, film theory, linguistics, industrial enterprise and Chinese studies. The Humanities and Social Sciences departments of IITs also offer M. Phil and PhD courses.
Fee
MA courses at IIT Guwahati : Rs. 50,000 per semester.
MA course at IIT Madras: Rs. 11,400 per semester.
Admissions
The admission process varies from each IIT. The admission test details will be announced in March usually. The entrance examination will be held in June. Exam Pattern will be Multiple Choice and Descriptive type. Entries begin in the last week of July.
