NDA Exam to join the National Defence Forces; Here are the preparation tips!

Joining the National Defence Forces is the dream of many young people. The path to a glorious career is through National Defense Academy Examination (NDA). If you qualify in this, you will have the opportunity to serve in the top ranks of the three armed forces (Army, Navy and Air Force).

Experts say, ‘to secure the rank of Commissioned Officer in the National Defense Forces proper planning and commitment are must’. As the NDA exam is conducted twice a year, for the year 2021, it will be held on April 18. Here are some tips for the NDA aspirants.

When is NDA exam notified?
The NDA has been set up to oversee the recruitment and training process for vacancies in the three forces - Army, Navy and Air Force. The NDA notification is issued twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The selection process will be conducted for the eligible candidates. Talented candidates will be trained. After the completion of the training, they will be employed in the respective departments. NDA is a golden opportunity for candidates who want to work in the defense forces.
Candidates who have completed Inter / 10 + 2 can apply to NDA. About 6 to 7 lakh people take these exams every year. Candidates are selected through written test and SSB interviews. As the NDA 2021 announcement has already released and the application process is over, it’s time for the aspirants to prepare for the exam with confidence and strong determination.

What is NDA written exam pattern?
The NDA exam will be held offline on April 18. The exam will be for a total of 900 marks. This consists of two papers. Questions come from Mathematics - 300 marks, General Ability - 600 marks (English, Science, Humanities and Current Affairs) papers. All questions are objective. The time allotted for each paper is 2.30 hours. Both papers will be held on the same day. Negative marking policy is there... So candidates should be careful while answering. A deduction of 33% will be levied from the mark obtained for each wrong answer. The test will be in Hindi and English.

Strategic Preparation? Plan for NDA Exam
There is less than one month of time for the exam, so now instead of going into new things, focus on important topics.

  • To begin with, candidates must be clear about the subjects, pattern and types of questions
  • Practice previous exam question papers and write as many mock tests as possible.
  • The Mathematics section of NDA comprises questions from Algebra, matrices, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, etc. Candidates must clear their concepts from Class 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 NCERT books
  • The GAT comprises a variety of subjects such as Chemistry, General Science, Geography, History, and Current Affairs. This section also comprises a section on English
  • Candidates must revise the topics they have studied
  • Make short and simple notes as it will help candidates to revise properly and quickly

SSB Interview
The SSB Interview is conducted for Intelligence and Personality Test. The test is conducted in two stages. All qualified candidates are put to stage 1 test on the first day of reporting at Selection Centers/Air Force Selection Boards/Naval Selection Boards. Candidates qualifying the first stage are called for the second stage exam. Those who will qualify the second stage are required to submit a birth certificate and pass certificate.
Stage-1: This interview includes Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR), Verbal-Non-Verbal Tests, Picture Perception and Description Tests (PP and DT).
Stage-2: Group Testing Officer Test and Psychology Tests will be conducted in this interview. Group Testing Officer Tests include GD, GPE, PGT, HGT, IoT, Command Task, Shake Race, Individual Lecture, FGT.
Psychology Test: Conducts personal and interpersonal tests such as Thematic Appreciation Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT), Self Description -Test (SD).

Those who qualify in the above two stages will undergo medical tests. Admissions in the respective fields will be based on merit cum preference.
