AP Inter 2025-26: Major Changes in Question Paper Pattern; Check Details

The syllabus and question paper pattern of AP Inter Exams 2025-26 have been revised, and these changes have been communicated to all junior colleges. The NCERT syllabus will now be followed in the first year of Intermediate education, extending the implementation that began at the school level in Class 10 this year.
AP Inter 2025-26: Major Changes in Question Paper Pattern

The Andhra Pradesh Board of Intermediate Education (BIEAP) is implementing significant changes in the AP Intermediate 2025-26 academic year. Starting from the 2025–26 academic year, the NCERT syllabus will be implemented for the first time. Since Class 10 students have already completed their education under the NCERT syllabus this year, the same pattern will be extended to Intermediate education as well, aligning with CBSE standards.

The new syllabus will be introduced for Intermediate 1st Year (2025-26) and will be extended to 2nd Year (2026-27). This transition aims to standardize the curriculum and ensure that students are better prepared for competitive exams at the national level.

Key Changes in AP Inter 1st year 2025-26:

  • Maths Combined into One Paper: Previously, Mathematics was divided into Paper A and Paper B, with 75 marks each. Now, these have been merged into a single paper with a total of 100 marks.
  • Physics and Chemistry Marks Increased: Physics and Chemistry, which were earlier for 60 marks each, have now been increased to 85 marks each, with 30 marks allocated for practicals split across both years (15 in 1st year and 15 in 2nd year).
  • Biology (Botany and Zoology) Combined: In the BiPC stream, Botany and Zoology have been merged into a single subject called Biological Sciences. This paper will be for 85 marks, with 43 marks allocated for Botany and 42 marks for Zoology.
  • Commerce and Accountancy Merged in CEC Group: In the CEC group, Commerce and Accountancy have been merged into one paper for 50 marks each.
  • Same Pattern for Language Subjects: There will be no changes in the question paper pattern for languages like Telugu, Hindi, Urdu, and Sanskrit.

Introduction of One-Mark Questions in AP Inter Exams:

For the first time, one-mark questions have been introduced in the AP Inter 1st Year exams following the CBSE pattern. These will be included in Section A of the question papers for all subjects:

  • Mathematics: 12 one-mark questions and 10 two-mark questions without any choice. Choice will be provided for 4-mark and 8-mark questions.
  • Physics and Chemistry: 9 one-mark questions and 14 two-mark questions, with choice in 4-mark and 8-mark questions.
  • Biology: 5 one-mark questions from Botany and 4 from Zoology. 14 two-mark questions (7 from each subject) totaling 28 marks.
  • Political Science, History, and Economics: 10 one-mark questions and 15 two-mark questions. History will include a map-based 4-mark question.
  • Commerce and Accountancy: 8 one-mark questions.
  • English: 10 one-mark questions in Section B and 24 in Section C, along with 32 half-mark questions in Section C. Questions will also be for 2, 4, 5, and 8 marks.

AP Inter 2025-26: Introduction of Elective Subjects and Revised Exam Pattern

The Andhra Pradesh education board has introduced an elective subject system to provide more flexibility in subject selection for Intermediate students. Currently, all groups have English as Part 1, a second language as Part 2, and core subjects as Part 3. However, an elective subject system has now been introduced in Part 2, offering 20 options across Languages, Science, and Humanities streams.

Elective Subject Options:

  • Languages: Telugu, Sanskrit, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Tamil, Kannada, Odia, French, Persian (10 options)
  • Modern Languages: English, Telugu, Urdu
  • Other Subjects: Geography, Logic, Public Administration, History, Civics, Commerce, Economics (10 options)

Students can choose one elective subject in place of the second language. However, English remains mandatory for all groups.

5 Subjects, 1000 Marks System

A 5-subject system will be implemented for MPC and BiPC groups. Currently, Science groups have 2 language subjects and 4 core subjects (total 6), while Arts groups have 2 language subjects and 3 core subjects. Moving forward, all groups will have only 5 subjects.

  • Mathematics A & B Papers will be merged into a single subject.
  • Botany and Zoology will also be combined into one subject.
  • A new MBiPC Group with 6 subjects will be introduced this year. MPC students can choose Botany, and BiPC students can choose Mathematics to obtain the MBiPC Certificate.

Revised Marking System: 1000 Marks Over 2 Years

A 1000-mark system will be implemented across all groups, covering both years.

  • Science Subjects: 85 marks for theory and 30 marks for practicals.
  • The exam pattern will be aligned with the CBSE system, replacing essay-type questions with objective questions of 1, 2, 4, and 8 marks in all subject papers.

Academic Calendar and Holidays for AP Inter 2025-26

The academic year 2025-26 will have 314 working days, with 79 holidays. Junior colleges will reopen on April 1, 2025, with classes continuing until April 23, 2025, followed by summer vacation from April 24 to June 1, 2025.

  • Dussehra Holidays: September 28 to October 5, 2025
  • Sankranti Holidays: January 10 to January 18, 2026
  • Practical Exams: February 2026
  • Public Exams: March 2026
  • The last working day of the academic year will be March 18, 2026.
