Embraced the actual concept - Vamsi Krishna Reddy, GATE-2018 AIR 47

The success story of Vamsi Krishna Reddy who strived hard to achieve his goal – cracking GATE

I am from Siddipeta. My father BalaKrishna Reddy runs a home appliances shop. My mother Sandhya is a home–maker. My younger sister Swetha was selected as AE recently. I am an average student. I got 553 marks in tenth standard and 908 marks in intermediate. I completed my graduation in engineering at NIT Warangal. I secured AIR 47 in GATE, with which I have an opportunity to join in PSU. But my aim is to crack Engineering Services Exam (ESE). Recently, I appeared for mains of it and awaiting result.

Novartis job… only six months!
I got selected for Novartis in engineering placements. My job was in Hyderabad, as data analyst with a package of Rs.7 lakhs. But I came to know that I learnt nothing in engineering. Decided to take coaching for ESE and wanted to learn the subject. That’s why I didn’t join the job. But, my parents advised me that I would get clarity about my aim and goal, after doing job for some time. Hence, I joined the job. Joining half-heartedly in the job… made me to leave it soon (only six months) and join in a coaching center at Delhi. I started learning the subject by joining the coaching in 2017, February. I dedicated myself for studies about a year. By take coaching for ESE, I got coaching for GATE also. With that, I secured AIR 47 in GATE-2018.

Don’t want to join PSUs
I can get a job in PSUs with the GATE rank. But my aim is to crack ESE. I joined in IIT Madras in Structural Engineering (M. Tech) with the idea of having good atmosphere for studies. Currently, I am preparing for ESE from here.

Constant preparation
GATE candidates should start preparation from fifth semester itself. With growing competition every year for GATE one should not miss even a single topic. Math is crucial. We can get at least 15 marks with ease. We should move forward with constant preparation. As a part of my preparation, I used to attend classes for 6 hours and study at home. Students, who are attending for coaching, should not skip any class. I used to write as many number of mock tests as possible and rectify my mistakes. I had written short notes while preparation. It helped for revision. For speed and perfection, revision is the only mantra. For this, we have to take care of health and food as well.

ESE+GATE
I prepared for GATE and ESE at the same time. With eligibility and enthusiasm anyone can prepare for both the exams at a time. For ESE, students have to study General Studies (GS) in addition. Remaining syllabus will be same. I crossed the ESE mains stage. I am awaiting interview in September.
