NEET AP Medical Colleges Admissions 2024: EWS Quota Put on Hold!

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has issued a temporary stay on the state government's order allocating 10% of seats in private medical colleges to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) under the Convenor quota.

The court raised concerns about the government's decision to implement the EWS quota without increasing the overall number of seats, arguing that this could negatively impact general category students. The petitioners, representing general category students, contended that the government's move was unconstitutional and violated Supreme Court guidelines.

The state government defended its decision, citing NMC directives that prohibit increasing the number of seats in private colleges. However, the court was not convinced and directed the government to explore options for increasing college capacity if it intends to proceed with the EWS quota.

The High Court has scheduled a further hearing on August 20 to address the matter in detail. Meanwhile, parents of medical aspirants have welcomed the court's decision, expressing relief that it would prevent potential harm to general category students.
