Ministry of Tourism Organizing International Tourism Mart at Shillong
- The Government of India's Ministry of Tourism is organizing the 11th edition of the International Tourism Mart in Shillong, Meghalaya, scheduled to take place from November 21st to 23rd, 2023. This annual event serves as a crucial platform for stakeholders from the North Eastern States to connect with counterparts from across the country and international markets.
- The primary focus of the event is to showcase and promote the distinctive tourism potential, biodiversity, and rich cultural heritage of the North East Region (NER).
- As part of its commitment to the region's tourism development, the Ministry of Tourism has allocated significant resources. Sixteen projects, with a total investment of Rs.1309 crores, have been sanctioned under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme.
- Additionally, the revamped Swadesh Darshan Scheme 2.0 is actively developing 15 tourist destinations. The PRASHAD Scheme has approved eight projects amounting to Rs.256.45 crores for the integrated development of pilgrimage destinations in the North East. Furthermore, efforts are underway to enhance highway network infrastructure with the development of 22 viewpoints.
